First thing's first I'm a massive Hollyoaks fan but i fail to see how so many people seem to think HO is currently better than EE.

Right now HO is so sloppy its unreal the story paces are slow and some big stories go off sometimes for months. The majority of storylines are storyline led and not character. Characters go round and round in circles with no real development or just turn back (Sienna for example) when characters are killed off there is literally no emotion in any of the scripts hardly (Callum/Ash/Carmels ex/) and for example from what i've seen Sam and Dans death is being handled awfully. I miss the Hollyoaks that had characters who had backstories and storylines that were character led (Brendan/Lindsey/Mitzee)

EastEnders as an overall this year as been pretty amazing with major unused characters like Denise/Patrick/ian now getting storylines as well as bringing in new interesting characters like most the Carter clan and Charlie Cotton, and DTC has injected life back into EE, yeap its not there completely yet and it as been boring at points.

I fail to see why 80% of facebook users on the EE page say Hollyoaks is better at the minute to me its a shamble.

Are melodramtic soaps now better with stunts and deaths every few weeks with no real effects on characters better than storylines character driven?

Sorry for the long rant just frustrated at some fans and Bryan kirkwood for messing up Hollyoaks after he screwed over EastEnders

I absolutely agree with everything you've just said, I could write an entire essay about how terrible hollyoaks is. Eastenders has had some silly storylines but they've not been embarrassing to watch unlike Hollyoaks.

I'm going off hollyoaks, I've grown up watching eastenders so even when I've stopped watching it, I've been able to keep up. It's definitely my favourite soap now, I've watched a fair amount if both soaps over the years and due to what I study, I automatically analyse TV, from script, to editing, character development and storylining and after a long summer with nothing to do but watch TV, from my point of view, eastenders is much better than hollyoaks.

I agree, it's really not. I think people who don't use forums and don't over analyze are only seeing the shocks and thinking ''wow, I'm on the edge of my seat, this must be good'' when really they are awful at construccing thought provoking storylines, terrible with the aftermath of any storline and they cant keep there characters consistant. Hollyoaks definitely plays on shock factor.

Hollyoaks also thinks it's some sort of Hollywood movie and it's just terrible. It's not just one flaw in a particular part, there are flaws in everything. I've seen so many glitches from editing, the script is poor, the costume for some of the characters is terrible (take a look at what George wears tomorrow if you haven't already seen). It's just crud in comparison.

I think it anything, ratings are the ultimate proof of whether or not people enjoy one soap more than another.

I'd like to add that the way they've treated Sam and Danny's death is ridiculous. As if a fourteen year old girl wouldn't be absoulty devasted at both her 'parents' dying, she seems like she doesn't give two hoots in the recent episodes.

It's just difference of opinion really. No soap is better then the other. I enjoy Hollyoaks much more then Eastenders so you could class that as me saying Hollyoaks is better. Someone could say Doctors is better then Eastenders and others might disagree while some will agree. People can say Doctor Who is better and there will be two bunch of people with different opinions cause they are different shows just like HO and EE are different shows (yes both soaps but still different shows). There's not an argument to it really, everyone has different opinions and that doesn't make one right and one wrong.

Casual soap fans are entirely different to DS members. Lolts of people love Hollyoaks OMG moments.

Focus more on what the British public have to say rather than the teenagers on twitter, I myself am 15 (I know it says I'm 24 but yano haha) and ill tell you the reason why the teenagers prefer hollyoaks over ANY other soap now, because HO are so ott, they have stunts, murders, etc... It's worrying that people don't realise it's not even a soap anymore and that it's actually pure tripe... It wins awards because they vote about 20,000 ****ing times for it... it's a dire show and I can't stand it, EastEnders is much better much more consistent, and is watched by at least 5 million more people most nights! Mainly watched by about 7-8 million more a lot of the time aswell, ignore what they have to say on twitter, if EE aired one conversation between dot and another character for more than 39 seconds, you'd get all the chavs like 'yo EE used 2 bang tym ago uno, all about hollyoaks now KMT' lol Shutup you idiots... They just don't get what EE is anymore because hollyoaks are shoving way too much drama down their throats, so they've lost what a SOAP is, hollyoaks does not beat EE at all! The public, popularity, viewing figures, how many followers EE has on FB and twitter, etc show that!

Sorry and of course you are entitled to an opinion and for HO to be your favorite soap, but it isn't just difference of opinion. Its quality of stories, characters that are cast and their back stories, little things like the way the camera pans... These things and much more are what makes a soap and Hollyoaks really has nothing special, just the shock factor and its a shame because HO wasn't like this years ago.

Haha exactly they used to say eastenders used to bang and other say hollyoaks is live and bangs more than eastenders. Someone on twitter said eastenders needs to take tips from hollyoaks

you've got it absolutely right in terms of whats wrong with Hollyoaks these days, like you I am massive fan of Hollyoaks and EastEnders also, but Hollyoaks really isn't the same as what it used I really miss the days of real emotion/ character led storylines and all these deaths and stunts are ridiculous and they really aren't the ingredients for good drama, Hollyoaks really needs a shaken up but there is so much damage done I'm worried that it aint gonna improve any time soon but for some reason (that I don't know why) I can't see myself giving up on it either

Oh god no, they'd kill off all the originals and bring in a load of families with no development, who would probably leave after a year, this would NEVER happen, people on twitter are teenagers, they want to be spoon fed with constant drama, it's pathetic! I type in things like 'eastenders boring' on twitter, it probably sounds sad lol, but I like to see wether people are finding it boring or not, and they get about 20 tweets per episode, not bad considering it's watched by over 6 million people most nights... Ignore what they have to say on social media, that's what I say:P

I guess it just comes down to what you enjoy. I've always felt that HO has been underrated in the past, with many people dismissing it as the "teen" soap even when it was at the top of its game (and I do believe that when HO is at the top of its game, it's gutsier and ballsier than any other soap out there, and absolutely compelling TV.) Lately, though, I feel like it's lost its long-term vision, is burning through storylines at an unpleasantly quick rate, has lost so many brilliant characters and replaced them with inferior versions, and is just generally dumbing down and not treating its older viewers with any sort of respect.

EE, however, has improved so much since DTC came in, to the extent that I started watching again at Christmas after several years of barely ever seeing it, and I'm still absolutely hooked. I think all of the big three soaps are guilty of resting on their laurels at some point but it does genuinely feel like EE is working hard now to improve and take its reputation as the 'gritty' soap seriously.

I have watched Hollyoaks from day 1 and Eastenders on and off for about 25 years. I stopped watching Eastenders for about 10 years as it just got beyond ridiculous and I really thought that Hollyoaks was the best soap, until earlier this year. I am losing patience with Holyoaks rapidly. Yes, they do have there moments when it is absolutely fantastic (The Maxine/Patrick wedding), but the rest of it leaves a lot to be desired (the aftermath of the previously mentioned wedding was awful) They seem to start something, then forget about it for months on end and some of the story progression is abysmal (JP's rape seems to constantly get forgotten about). Also there are too many people who have been unnecessarily killed off (Sam, Danny, Jim, Leanne, Doug). It is almost like TPTB are doing it is as an easy option/shock tactics. I think a lot of the Hollyoaks Facebook page are incredibly deluded as to the state of the show. They don't like to hear the truth.
Since DTC took over on Eastenders, the show continues to go from strength to strength. I think a new EP is just what Hollyoaks needs IMO.

No Carters in Hollyoaks.That alone makes it better.

How am I forcing my opinion on to you? I'm adding to the discussion on a discussion forum and as I said your entitled to your opinion. I just think to put it under difference of opinion is silly as their are clearly differences in the quality of the two soaps.
