Atleast Stoke and Hull spent a bit of money..well quite a few millions.

West Brom have done well to stay up on a small budget.

They only spent £2 million. That's SPL type figures when they have what £80 million a season coming in? two seasons would be £160 million. Surely £10 is nothing?

You'd think he'd want a more mid-table team. A team that should be in the top 10 but trying to go a step further.

What if Lambert doesn't last at Villa?
Many toon fans weren't happy with Pardew last season. Mind you, that would mean having to learn French.

What about Neil Lennon or Chris Hughton both were on GoS last Sunday, saying they were looking for the right job.

The odds on them going down must have fallen dramatically.

It was a pretty easy first game for them anyway, but yeah, it's a dead cert 3pts now.

Well I think that maybe one team nail on to go down for this season. Tony might have worked his magic but I cannot see any decent manager want to go their now.”

Well it beats Martin O'Neill, who bailed out at Aston Villa on the Monday IIRC before the opening fixture of the 2010-11 season.

Mackay is the favourite it seems.

I can see both sides arguments.

Pulis wants to bring in a better quality to show more ambition but the chairman doesn't want to risk financial ruin I guess.

Mind you I am sure they can afford to spend more than 2 million - and from what I've read Pulis didn't want to sign Martin Kelly.

Maybe there is some sort of finance issue we don't know about?

They had offer accepted for Sigurdsson and Caulker (possibly at the same time?), they must cost about £8 mill?

I think they will go down now, very average team that had a very good manager. I thought they would stay up because of Tony Pulis not their squad

They'll do well to stay up that's for sure.

Moyes would love to be reunited with his old excuse from his Everton days

How would that work? West Ham get rid of Allardyce because the fans hate him for playing dour long ball defensive football rather than the West Ham way and they replace him with Pulis!?!

You think that would go down well with the fans?

Yeah, we apparently bid about £10m for Sigurdsson and matched Caulker's release fee. I imagine it's more of a wage restriction thing holding us back/keeping us stable (delete as applicable) in transfers.

That's certainly a fair point indeed. They'd probably have the money to make the odd decent signing here or there, much like Everton, so it might be a more realistic option to be able to be able to take them a bit higher up the table should Lambert ever leave.

Now it's been mentioned, I'm sure the good old 'sarf london lad' Tim Sherwood would probably be banging down Steve Parish's door ..

Can't see Pulis or Fat Sam filling the Olympic Stadium.

Managers in England are going just have to get use to not having complete power anymore. Those days are long gone.

More and more clubs are going to employ someone to look after the playing side of the business and someone else to look after the buying and selling part of the business just as they would employ someone to look after the selling of merchindise and someone in charge of the ticket office.

Its been this way in Europe now for many many years and is now quite common over here.

You can not expect a owner who is investing money into a club to trust the spending of that money to someone who gain's from spending as much as possible. Pulis has no financial background whatsoever.

Wages are a far bigger contributor to the p&l account than transfers.
