Donna's death
AlanMck
14-08-2014
Donna took her own life rather than let mesothelioma take her. Most mesothelioma victims fight to live.

Please sign the asbestos research funding petition and help meso victims fight this terrible disease.

Thank You

Many thanks. We need to get the government to give the £52 million they are saving from the Mesothelioma Act to research

An ex-partner of mine lost his Dad to this terrible disease; enough is enough!

I think the whole plot of Donna turning into Bad cop was totally ridiculous. Very untrue to the character. It was embarrassing to watch
She had no need to turn to crime, she was in the Police force, which would have provided in death benefits.
Now her relatives will have tainted memories of her.
It could have been so different.

Yes you are right, enough is enough. The many thousands who have died and the many who will die is a national disgrace. We should have been investing in research decades ago. We have failed all those thousands of victims.

Whilst the producers got a dramatic episode with some excellent acting, realism did suffer, and the mesothelioma could have been covered in a way that should both the full horror and the fight to live victims make.

In real life that would have happened but this is soapland . I think what Donna had been up to before her death will be brushed under the carpet and she will be known as St Donna the killer of the local peadophile lol..They will be either getting a bench made or a statue or a plaque on Bobs cafe wall so people wont ever forget what she did.

Thanks dd

I suppose another disappointment is that other soaps are unlikely to run a mesothelioma storyline in the short term, although there is the opportunity for one of them to have the meso as the central issue rather than be used on the periphery.

Think I read somewhere that Marlon has a rant at the police as to why Donna went on such a job on her own and at that point everyone realises that Donna had been leading a double life. Ross tells Marlon about his affair with Donna so her reputation and police pension die with her.

I wondered if they will take the approach that she had arrested Gary but he jumped taking her with him instead of the other way round as she had handcuffed him and both went over and then she technically died in the line of duty and her benefits would be protected etc. Given it is soapland that's probably too simple and there will be a whole web of complexities to be unravelled resulting in much wailing and gnashing of teeth from Marlon about how his Donna wasn't like that.

That said I think Verity did a fab job with it and although points of this were unrealistic to a degree (although having had a family member die of lung cancer who seemed almost fully fit until near the end perhaps not wholly unrealistic) think it was well played out and showed the extremes people will go to to try and protect loved ones even if it means going against your own beliefs and morals and I think people don't realise what they are capable of until they are in that kind of situation.

I hope this is correct, lawless45. It would be very wrong, even for Soapland, for Donna and Ross to get away with their crimes.

Just heard that Ross is STILL grieving for Donna in November, he's got it well bad!

I don't suppose the Emmerdale Producers will take the mesothelioma issue any further, as they got what they wanted from it. It would be good to see one of the main affected characters to become a campaigner for mesothelioma victims.

Poor old Bob. Five wives, lost his daughter, step-daughter, and wife. Makes you wonder how much it takes to take away your bounce.
