Make your vote count
11 March 2005

While the celebrities have agonised over their vocal techniques and sweated in their dance routines, it's never been far from their minds why they volunteered to enter the Academy in the first place which is, of course, to raise much needed money for Comic Relief.

And it's your votes which are raising the money but in a slight change to the proceedings tonight, phone voting will close at 7pm, which is before the grand final itself goes out as part of Red Nose Day 2005.

The reason for this is that, once Comic Relief begins at 7pm, all phone lines will be needed for donations. So it's vital that you place your votes before 7pm - click here if you need a reminder of the numbers.

Text voting will be available for a short while during the show, but don't miss out on voting for your favourite student and making a fantastic contribution to Comic Relief.

What are you waiting for - pick up that phone!

So we have to vote BEFORE we've heard them sing! That's scandalous!

That is ridiculous...and just like all reality tv....its simply a popularity contest, at least this time all the money isn't going to the fat cats at endemol

So Kim's won then.

So Ade is working hard on Anarchy in the Uk and we wont get to hear it tonight.

Yep looks like it. It says text voting is only available for a short time during show. So If you have a favourite above others I would vote before 7p.m.

It surprised me somewhat. They may as well all sing crap as it doesn't look like it will make any difference to how it pans out. Still its all for Comic Relief

Big advantage for Ade fans - can't see too many Kim fans texting votes late on. C'MON ADE!!!

why they told you last night at the end of last nights show.
don't forget they only get so many lines for Comic Relief so they need the lines we have been using to get the donations people will be making.

I would say Ade fans would not text as much. A lot of adult men like Ade. Not great with phones adult men

Yes don't wait until after the performances as it will be too late. All voting needs to be done this pm.

Just like last night: anyone who waited until after Ade sang his 'repeat' song to vote was out of luck - they'd closed the lines. I know, 'cos I was waiting to hear them all before deciding on my 2nd batch of votes.

I would say the advantage of the text lines staying open longer would benefit Edith more than Ade, especially with Colin plugging her this afternoon on Radio one - surely the majority of R1 listeners are the age group that would mainly use text to vote?

I had to explain to my own teenagers who Adrian Edmondson was - these are teens that watched Bottom, but could not connect this balding, middle aged, middle class man with that character. I expect Adrian to come third, followed by Edith, then Kim as winner.

Oh nooo.

This is shit.

It's ruined it for me now.

It makes it pointless television.
Utterly pointless television.

So now, no matter how well they perform, no matter what happens, the actual performances are meaningless, they don't mean a thing.

It's actually watching the show in the knowledge that their performances are the main factor that determines if they survive or get kicked out which is the attraction of the show for me.

That's the whole draw of the show.
That's what I watch it for

Now I will just be watching celebrities singing for nothing.
Now there is no emotional investment or excitement from the show and we will just be killing time waiting for a result to be announced that they got before the show even starts.

It makes it utterly pointless television in terms of entertainment.

I've followed this Fame Academy series from the start and was really enjoying it.
I genuinely thought this was the best series of Fame Academy that I've seen.

I've followed their show since the start, and when it gets almost to the end they reward us with this shambles?
I thought the BBC would be capable of better planning than this.

Now it's completely unimportant whether they broadcast the big final show or not, there's no need to even broadcast a show at all.

What a waste of f**king time.

(And if anybody is thinking of saying it, please don't say ....."but it's all for charidee so it doesn't matter", which seems to be what a lot of people like to say recently )

No it is not. We've heard them sing night after night.

It just means we can't vote on "tonight's performance" and instead have to vote on how they've done overall, or something like that.

Sure, we thought we were going to be deciding based on the final night, but it turns out the rules are different and we just have to think of it a different way

What's a scandal is that they allow voting to continue but only by txt.

That's the problem when you don't have a stand alone
final from the academy

Colin is firing up the txters as we speak. Write. Whatever.

He's playing "Eye of the tiger", Edith's the "underdog", etc. Playing clips of Richard Park praise for Edith. And so on.

Note how he's not saying "wait 'till you hear her sing".

personally i don't know anyone who listens to it anyway. It is a "snobby" show, only playing music that someone decided is "cool"

Colin's not just pushing the Edith vote occasionally, either.

I don't know what effect it has on other listeners, but it makes it a lot harder for me to be happy with an Edith win.
Tezzer

It also would make non Edith fans want to vote for Kim or Ade which is good for Comic Relief
