Emmerdale: Queen Charity
In an otherwise grim episode last night, Queen Charity provided some much needed humour and smiles. Fancy finding a rich good looking man she didn't want to have sex with! What has become of her?!
Of course we know Charity has a huge storyline coming up in the Autumn, and with this recent earth shattering character development I thought I'd create a new thread to discuss where this could be leading. If recent scenes are to be believed Charity has realised she very much does love King Toupée, and is even consistently showing affection towards her children. I'm thinking this is to soften up the character a bit, to make us feel sorry for her when her lies come out and she gets her comeuppance. Amongst many other things, Charity's crimes in 2014 include lying to her husband about having a miscarriage, chasing an innocent woman out of the village with her ex husbands child, framing her for the arson of home farm, getting with Declan originally purely for the sake of money and to wind up her ex husband. Of course her most heinous crime of all is birthing evil murdering Debbie. With all that said when Charity's world crumbles around her will we feel sorry for her or think she deserves everything she gets? I can't help but always root for the character, even though she is a horrible human being. Maybe it's because the actress who plays her is so brilliant, and maybe it's because it's sometimes nice to watch an unashamed bitch in the village when we have to suffer serial do-gooders such as Laurel, Marlon and Edna on the regular. So what is the general consensus? Are we Team Charity or Team Just Deserts? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() . |

I don't like Charity - she's just too unprincipled. I'd like to see her run out of town

She has got to be brought to book for all she's done, just has to be found out. No one should be allowed to get away with what she has - you forgot 'nicking' £20k from the bank to give to Cain, and lying it was to Debbie. Hmmm, maybe that's how the truth comes out about her, one lie too far?
Don't want to lose her from the Soap, but do want to see her found out. |

Yes, I'm reluctantly TeamCharity - she's a total evil bitch but soooo entertaining and some of her acerbic putdowns to most of t'village are legendary.
![]() I suspect only the lie about the abortion will come out initially, thus devastating poor HRD and leaving him thirsting for revenge. ![]()

Not for a long while. Charity the evil bitch is a much better character than Charity the down and out parasite.

Haha mixed reaction then!
I have to admit if she does lose everything I hope she builds herself up quickly again. She suits wealthy. |

I am on a see-saw when it comes to Charity, sometimes I love her scheming other times I hate it and want her caught out. She's too smug at times and it's really boring that EVERY rich guy within 10 miles seems to fall for her, she's nothing special.

she is an appalling human being (if indeed you can call her that) she thinks that she can behave in anyway he likes, have whatever she wants, it doesn't matter to her who she hurts, stamps on in the process... she lies and cheats to everyone, including her own family even while she professes to be "all about her family" she'll happily sell them all down the river if it means she gets her own way.
For someone who is essentially a prostitute she seems awfully judgmental. I can't wait to see her fall from grace... because she's got such a long long long way to fall. |

Justabloke's post sums up my opinion of SkankCharity, very well.
I suspect that any comeuppance will be short-lived though. Unfortunately. |

After initially thinking it was a mixed response it seems the majority hate her
![]() One of the strangest things about Charity is that she does actually have good business sense, there would be nothing stop her from becoming a self made woman legitimately. She's never been keen on being a lady of leisure, she prefers to try and take over her various husbands' businesses. It isn't even the easy route to take and she causes so much trouble for herself. If Beauty and Bernice can do it surely she can too?! |

I don't get why so many guys fall for her either. She's nothing to write home about in the looks department and she's so hard-faced I can't believe one glance doesn't tell them what a cold, calculating piece she is.
I think that men find her appealing for a number of reasons one: her looks, I think Emma is beautiful - personally - she looks quite soft on first judgement, long flowing blonde hair and big doe green eyes. I think those particular features have different connotations connected with them that juxtaposed with her personality are a contraction. two: her personality is one that is quite untameable, Charity has many hard edges and although she'll never be difficult to get into bed - I only speak to the truth & not that I'm judging - emotionally she's very closed off. I think many men would find such a challenge attractive. I realise that saying she's untameable while we all know how many times she's been married/engaged is laughable but fundamental that sums up her whole character; she's a contradiction. I think this is also the reason why she has a really loyal fan base. Although Charity has a sort of check list of old clichés: rich husband - check, money obsessed - check, scheming some poor sod - double check. She does have the ability to still surprise the audience - I could be speaking for myself here now - the last time she surprised me was how nice she was to Moira after she slapped her in the face - LEGEND!! - Charity still can be warm and a little gentle when she needs to be.I think however the audience have turned on because her last two schemes have involved children. As my soap opera lecture said - If you ever wish a character to be hated in a soap have them go for the woman or the children. It's soap law. & although Kate Oates is a fan of letting her get away with this unfortunately she cannot this time, if she wishes to give the audience some kind of pay off some of the time. Anyway, this has went on, soz, but I still stand by my point that every guy seemingly falling for Charity is boring. |

i prefer Dogooder people to bitches who think their better than everyone else. However i do agree Emmas a great actress i just do not like the character.
I for one cant wait for her to get her commupence and i hope its Megan who outs her for all her lies. Shes like Chas though always comes up smelling of roses with everyone forgiving her for whatever she throws at people.......... its soapland and will always continue to be the case |

Doing my little character analysis on Charity and why she is so wanted by men:

Anyway, this has went on, soz, but I still stand by my point that every guy seemingly falling for Charity is boring. She's simply too much like hard work or to use the vernacular.. she's high maintenance and most blokes (people in fact) don't want it day in / day out. |

I really liked Charity during her original stint, and when it was announced she was coming back I was chuffed to be honest. But I haven't really liked her at all since her return, which is a shame cos she's a cracking actress when she gets the right material to work with IMO.
Yes, she was always a bitch, but the character has changed too much for me now. |

I think Charity is great and Emma Atkins plays her superbly....but I do think it's time she had her comeuppance she get's away with far to much.......though I hope she lands on her feet......Definitely team Charity for me...
