England's Official World Cup Song
Lee Cool
16-03-2002
I heard that Ant & Dec are to sing Englands world cup song this year, anyone know if it's true.
I also heard that Atomic Kitten are doing it!

I hope Atomic Kitten dont! it would be total shit!

I don't think anyone actually knows the two you mentioned are just a few of a whole host of names put around. The Sun reckons it is gonna be The Cardigans (carrying on the Swedish connection there) although frankly whoever it is the chances are it will be total crap!

Well it won't be The Cardigans because they spilt ages ago. Nina Persson is now in a band called A Camp.

And i'd be very,very.very.very,very suprised if it was Ant and Dec. Atomic Kittens did the world cup song on Mike Bassett, so it could be them, but i doubt it.

I've got a promo copy on CDR here of the song, it is the one from the Mike Basset film, and has been re-recorded with Ant and Dec, and Atomic Kitten. Wheather it is chosen as the world cup song is yet to be decided, but if it is, its a great happy song. alot better then Jeruselum!

Ant & Dec, Atomic Kitten, Anastacia - It's all quite a comedown from 1990 and New Order isn't it . Sums up the overall drop in music quality over a decade perfectly I would say

Hey, it's better than Ricky Martin.

perhaps that just matches the drop in quality of the England team he says as he runs for cover

Why do they have to release an offical song anyway. It'll never chart with the exception of a few. Most of them are crap except's New Order's song that they did and Three Lions.

Why Don't they release an offical of God Save The Queen by The Sex Pistols, but change the words to England's gonna win the cup.

Whatever it is, it can't be much worse that the one churned out by the FA for the last World Cup, namely '(How Does It Feel To Be On) Top Of The World' by England United, i.e. Ian Broudie, Ian McCulloch and the Spice Girls.

Absolutely abysmal, it was, and rightfully got usurped in the charts by Three Lions 98.

The best contender I've heard so far is a modern re-working of the song originally used for the '82 World Cup, 'This Time (We'll Get It Right'; there's a streaming file of it on the BBC Sport website if you search for it.

Failing that, I think everyone should just revert back to having 'World In Motion' as the England song; twelve years on, it sounds as brilliant as it did for Italia 90.

Vindaloo is the best world cup song released, IMO.

The original Three Lions was good too though. I'll never forget Euro 96 and the whole of Wembley singing that song.

Ahh but we never wanted to go to Japan anyway
Much better off at home watching England having to fly back as soon as they step off the plane!

How about Victoria Beckham with hubby with foot in sling singing a duet "The Impossible Dream" made famous by Andy Williams.

The official song was unveiled by the FA today; it'll be Ant and Dec, performing 'We're On The Ball'.

Sounds dire already.

Go England by the Englan Boys should be adopted as the official song (It's a reworking of Going Underground by Daryl Denham of Virgin Radio) It's catchy enough and certainly in the vein of Three Lions

Just heard it on the Live press conference on Sky Sports News.

Frigging awfull, "your on the ball" is a classic football song, but they have tottally ruined it, it dosnt even sound like the song its supposed to be!

But hey, its all fun aint it, and maybe the Germans will take to it, like they took to "3 Lions" and kindly adopt it!

As much as I hate the pr*t on the Virgin breakfast show, I must admit their rehashed version of ' Going Underground' is the class of the field at the moment. It's a catchy tune, known by many already, the lyrics are in the '3 lions' vein & are quite well thought out,.
Most important, it's def. a chant & would sound well echoing round the terraces.... Its due out the end of May, & maybe if some of the other staions pick it up, it could be a winner.

p.s. Before any asks why I listen to Virgin if the DJ's a pr*t, it's the only thing I can pick up in my basement office........
