Line Rental Saver price increases at BT Consumer and TalkTalk

So paying upfront will not be worth doing by the looks of it.

It's still worthwhile doing with BT as you are still saving £32.04 over the year.

For TalkTalk it looks like it will be cheaper to pay monthly but pay on the day the bill is issued.

Pretty much inline with inflation then, so to be expected really; no big deal.

BT's increase is 13%

Talk Talk's increase is 22%

Current inflation is 1.9%

Apart from the fact that BT is over priced in the first place, then again all line rental is over priced.
The best deal I had with line rental was with First telecom, but it is getting harder to get a decent broadband only deal these days on ADSL or even FTTC.

For TalkTalk it looks like it will be cheaper to pay monthly but pay on the day the bill is issued.
i am sure we all got time todo that, if we remember.

Nowhere near in line with inflation, even I know that.

the problem is they know that if people want broadband then most need line rental, so they got people trapped.
If it was not for broadband i am pretty sure, in fact I know that the majority of people would get rid of their home phones.

" but if you pay your bill the day it is issued you can save 15% (£2.39 on line rental)."

Its still cheap. If your income is pretty standard I'd worry more about the rising food costs than a few quid on line rental, my butchers bill has gone up around £30 a month...but this thread will fuel the BT and TT bashers lol

True, it is just if you remeber to do so.

cheap for a bit of cable and some equipment in a room? I think very few people will agree with you. I bet a lot people phone bill is less than the line rental.
We all know how much food have gone up, but if your butchers bil have gone up by £30 a month then you must buy a lot of meat.

Where is BT expanding? if you mean broadband then maybe so with Fibre, i am sure that will pelase line rental only payers that they are paying for your broadband.

If most people don't really have a choice in paying line rental, then it is about time they had a choice on who to pay that line rental to. This to get our broadband you got to pay us line rental should be stopped, it won't be, but it should be.

all broadband providers should be made to offer a broadband service where people can choose to use another provider for their landline.

10 years ago I was paying probably £20 a month for line rental and my internet connection. Today I am paying £17 a month.

Inflation is a bitch eh?

.
They helpfully send out an email when the bill is produced and I pay it as soon as I receive the email.

Not exactly a taxing thing to do.

Well few will take notice of that comment and its implications, since you claimed outrageously that the Line Rental Saver price rise was in line with inflation. Your credibility is, shall we say, somewhat dented.

What BT are clearly doing is trying to recoup the costs of their Premier League football deal by any and all means they think they can get away with and this is but one of those ways. Sky are doing much the same thing, only the exact methods differ.

But your line rental have gone up the only reason you are paying less is because the provider you use have dropped their broadband prices so much they are just about making a profit out of it. Their profit is from phone calls.

Try getting your broadband from one provider and your line rental from another and see how much you are paying then.

I could so easily do the same thing as you, and get it all for £17 a month, but the speed would be naff. So I prefer to pay a bit more for a slightly faster service.

Also, don't forget the people that don't have broadband or any internet at all, they are getting charged more and yet getting nothing new for it. i know this happens with other services, but at least with other services you do have a bit of a choice, since line rental is more or less dictated by BT, there is very little can do apart from getting rid of their home phone and I have noticed that trend on the few people I know that don't have the internet.

Maybe not, but what if you miss the email or is out all day?

What I would like to see the end of is where telecom’s providers quote things like “only £5 per month plus landline charges” with the LL charges hidden in the small print at the bottom of the screen or page. As the BB is not available in most cases without the LL then they should be made to add the two charges together and have a breakdown in the small print.

Can you imagine a car manufacturer advertising cars with the likes “Brand new VW only £12,000 plus charges for engine”.

My maths was a tad off target, lets put that down to jet lag. No line to home, no broadband, stop moaning for crying out loud Its still cheap.

Rather ironically, just logged into my TT account to find my bill was produced on Friday and I didn't receive any email so have passed the 24 hour period to pay to get the discount.

Serves me right.

My smartphone is linked to my main email address, which is the only one I use to be honest.

I am not bashing Talk Talk, in fact I have not even mentioned them until now. Also this is not just about Talk Talk, this is about other providers as well.

The other thing it is not a tummy bug, it was and still is a infection and no I have not go over it just yet.
