omg I love her!!! A mitchell storyline is needed, peggy grant and sam would pull in viewers for sure, especially if it was advertised... That's another problem, too many new characters doing nothing!
I hope never to see Peggy again and as for Sam, only if she was played by Kim. Grant was great but is now knocking on a bit the same as his brother, they'll be hitting 60 before you know it.

Peggy's one off return did nothing for the viewing figures.

I love Stacey too . I thought she was back full time last week, but it looks like she won't be back again until mid September, which is a major shame as I was really excited to see her back on a regular basis .

If the viewers don't pick up autumn to Christmas I think they will be looking for another producer
no dom has got his feet well and truly under the table, he ain't going anywhere, you have more chance of getting rid of stuart (the hat) blackburn from corrie and he has been super glued to his desk!!!

I think it's the best it's been in 4 years but i do think some storylines are going on and on for too long with little payoff.

I agree, I can't see the return of Sam bringing back 1 extra viewer (perhaps the actresses family would tune in).

Wow, two Emmerdale episodes beat EastEnders and suddenly EastEnders is the third soap. EastEnders has been beating Emmerdale on a regular basis and yet that's all been forgotten.

Tbh eastenders has just had a slow few weeks, aye they have put to many eggs in one basket as all there major storyline are seemingly involved with the Lucy murder.

However corrie has been dire for months now, it's like a year round pano with over paid rubbish actors, it can be that bad it's good at times with Roy and yazmeen being a good example, but there in genuinely no good storyline in corrie at the min. There the woefully mismanaged Tina murder. That's dragging on for years. Then little filler storyline such as the builders yard going cowboy and maxs ADHD , but nothing worth rushing home to watch. Ohh unless u count Gail snogging les Dennis ,

Emmerdales Donna story came to an end this week which is why it won in the ratings simples lol

There is no soap rating battle. We all know what the best soap is

Someone posted in the TV ratings thread last week that EE and Corrie share the exact same demos these days. Its only Hollyoaks that has a larger under 25s audience.

EastEnders targeted the wrong demographic for too long. Thats why its lost viewers and cannot get them back. Its nothing to do with holidays.

I admire you trying to defend EE but the stats speak for themselves
I keep reading on here that EastEnders demographic of viewers is much younger and that their more likely to use catch up but Ive never seen sourced statistics to back this up.Its also anecodotelly isnt my experience that older people are less likely to use catchup or iplayer.
Infact I recall that the catchup figures for "old soap" Corrie were comparable or even larger than EastEnders catch up figures.

If anyone has the demographic stats Id be very interested in the truth of the matter.

Its more shocking how Corrie is still No.1, its truly awful.
To be fair ED has had a big week, i don't think it will last EE will be back second soon, are they doing anything for their 42nd anniversary?
I'm all over this x 1000.

Perhaps Emmerdale will repeat its best soap win at this years Inside Soap awards?

The quality has been awful recently. The winter months will tell if fans are actually interested in EastEnders.

Excuses, excuses excuses.

So EE fans are the only ones who go on holiday?!

I bet if I looked in past ratings threads you guys made the same excuses for Kirkwood and Newman.
emmerdale fans holiday in the uk, so they can go back to their b&b after their evening meal to watch emmerdale, before snuggling up to bed with a cup of coco and a coconut macaroon.

IMO it's because they've got way too much going on and none of it seems to be moving anywhere
There's just way too many SLs that don't seem to be developing and are just plodding along

With the Carters, for a new family they should have started smaller and had their storylines radially develop but they've introduced so many of them with so many different SLs at once

Lucy's murder has been a bit of a flop. DTC made a HUGE mistake letting the viewers know when it would conclude as now we know that everything is going to be a red herring. As her murder was so out of the blue I also thought we'd discover more about her during the investigation but it's been 4 months and we've basically discovered that Billy had an argument over chips and Jay is on the CCTV. This wouldn't have been so bad but it was so pointless waiting 4 months for us to find this out as nothing else really happened in between then, and we know Bily/Jay are red herrings now

The handling of new characters/returnees hasn't been brilliant. They seem to be taking one of three options. The first option is they come in, have a weeks worth of episodes dedicated to them then bugger off again and come back when nobody cares. Or they sit around doing nothing for ages, or they're shoved down our throats.

And I hate the new sets and stuff. We only ever really see the Vic, Cindy's, Scarlett's and the Albert. Scarlett's and the Albert are so pointless. He made a big mistake axing the salon IMO, and we rarely see much else.

I think he started off well but it's becoming a bit messy.
Amen to this I was about to write out pretty much everything on here you've saved me the hassle. Especially BIB a big mistake indeed people are only going to tune in a few times at best knowing that we won't get anything substantial until further on down the storyline's long, long long drawn out process.

I'll only worry when EastEnders becomes an X-Rated soap, and even then it'll still be better than the shite Corrie puts out.
