Jenna's fine, she's been handed some bad writing. Clara really comes into her own in the new leaked episodes.

Matt Smith got a major role in the new Terminator trilogy out of it and Arthur Darville a gig on Broadchurch and stint on Broadway. The recent rise of geek directors and producers and the show's new found success in America means a lot of major directors are well aware them. As for Frazer Hines, different times.

She's done some good stuff since Emmerdale. She's only in her late 20s and not everyone wants a huge Hollywood career, they are happy just working and being actors, not stars. Theres a huge difference.

Jenna has done incredibly well for herself since departing Emmerdale. She's definitely one on the up and won't return IMO.

I doubt it, I hadn't heard that she was leaving Doctor Who

It hasn't been officially announced but does seem to be an open secret that there will be a new companion for the 2015 season.

I don't think she will return to Emmerdale though - she hasn't just done Who since she left but a few other short series like Titanic the Pride and Prejudice sequel so think she'll want to keep looking for new work and build on the higher profile Who has given her - especially after the worldwide success of the 50th anniversary. I'm not saying she'll make it big in America (or even want to try) but there is no doubt that Doctor Who will have brought her to at least some casting directors attention over there in a way Emmerdale wouldn't have.

It isn't confirmed, speculation from a tabloid today. I think the same tabloids that said recently that Capaldi was leaving as well....

Just reading back through the thread. Fraser Hines did not leave Who for Emmerdale. He left because he didn't want to stay on after Patrick Troughton left and also the Production team wanted to take the show in a totally new direction as ratings were very low. It was nearly 4 years before Emmerdale started. Plus, the show just wasn't as big as it is now with the world wide audience and critical acclaim. Historically very few of the companions have done well - Louise Jameson has probably had the best career of the 'classic' companions and that has been as a reguarly jobbing actress with several long running series under her belt. But the reboot has been a little different. Piper, Noel Clark, Freema, Barrowman, Gillan, Darvill have Al had much more post Who success than any of the old companions although arguably Clark's is more down to his writing and directing success than his acting in Who and of course Barrowman was already a fairly big name before joining the show.

As I understand it the original source was the blurb Doctor Who Magazine sent new subscribers about upcoming issues, including exclusives with 'new' companions being announced and interviewed - and it seems they don't mean what's his name thaat played Ross Kirk.

I'd be surprised to see her come straight back to be hones - I think she'll want to spread her wings a bit more given the profile DW has given her.

Eventually though I wouldn't be surprosed to see her come back - even for a limited time like Verity Rushworth has just done (although probably not killing Jasmine off). Particularly if for instance they decided to kill Sandy off - Jasmine and her 'Grandpa' were very close and it would make sense for her to come back for his funeral.

I suspect she would be more of a few episodes as a 'guest' rather than re-joining as a regular.

She could come back as a partner for Vanessa; or Debbie could have another about turn and become a lesbian again.

I don't think that having been in Dr Who guarrantees anyone a massive career. With the exception of Karen Gillan the people who have made it big were already well established - even John Barrowman was an experienced West End actor.

I can take or leave Dr Who, personally - it's something I only tend to watch at Christmas. I'm not criticising it, it's just not my type of thing, and I think there's also a danger of mistaking something that's trendy and overhyped for being better quality than other programmes.

Personally, from what I saw of Jenna Coleman in ED, and I didn't watch much at that time, she was quite wooden, and I wasn't all that impressed with her in 'Death Comes to Pemberly' either - except towards the end.

That said, actors are individuals like everyone else. i don't see how people can make statements like 'no actor would ever go back to a soap.' Unless you know the person you really can't presume to know what their attitudes towards soaps are, and why they make certain decisions. Jenna might love the idea of returning to Emmerdale, or perhaps she doesn't believe in 'going back.' Who knows?
