Do you think EastEnders will update the title sequence for the 30th anniversary next year? Also do you think the theme tune will be altered?

I know the last title change was back in September 2009, five months before the 25th anniversary. A new theme tune was also created for the show by Simon May and IMO the current theme is the worst EastEnders has ever had. It was supposed to have stronger drum beats and a more background noise but I think the previous 1994-2009 acoustic based theme tune was perfect and every time I hear it the more I miss it. I really wish the producers consider changing the theme tune and title sequence. As the show is really entering a new era with DTC and supposed to be moving on from the BK and LN era a change would be appreciated.

What do you guys think?

I believe they are phasing out the piano in the theme tune, Shirley is going to sing the melody in the 30th anniversary version.

I doubt it. The current titles are only 5 years old and they've had a minor tweak in that time I think. I believe the previous titles lasted 10 years.

I think they should use one of these versions

the opening titles will use a shorter version and we will see the main cast on the square happy having barbecues, doing gardening, cleaning their cars, reading the paper, heading into the vic, etc.

The current theme lacks 'punch' and the titles are too cartoonish.

They should go back to the original theme, or use the slightly reworked 1991 version.

I think they should go back to the 1994-2009 theme tune, that's the best one of them all IMO. But put longer end credits, use the omnibus version or something, 30 something seconds for end credits is not long enough tbh.

I do think that the titles should be updated. They make London look waaaay too idyllic and almost tropical with that blue river, bubblegum-green fields and light fluffy clouds. Now I'm not suggesting grey and miserable (though the original was very much so) , but something akin to the 99-09 version, in HD would be great.

The theme too, sounds too light and airy, it sounded much better in 94-09 with the choral synth making it sound a bit 'grand'.

Oh for crying out loud its a fecking theme tune which you see 30 seconds before the programme starts. Who gives a monkeys whether it needs "stronger drum beats" where's the roll eyes when you need it.

I think the contrast on colours has been touched up - but yeah... that's essentially London on a nice summer's day. Those green fields are not made up, they actually exist.

You obviously cared enough to post on a thread about it.

The Jazz theme is ****ing awful! its best left in the past and the cult fans of it can just enjoy their memories!

I don't think the current tune is that bad. Its a mixture of both the 80s and the 90/00s theme. I agree the graphics look too cartoony but I think the reason they did the themes blue was a homage to the 80s credits where it was also blue.

I will never forget the first time I watched EE when it was used. I was like WTF have they done. I think it only lasted 9 months before they changed it back.

I liked that version, I never did get all the fuss about it.

Even now I hum the jazzy DO-DO-DO-DO bit at the end in my head when the opening credits run
