maybe someone can explain to me why this woman is a celebrity - as far as i know all she did was give birth to someone who could be called a celebrity
seriously, has she done anything herself or is she just famous because her son is? |

seriously, has she done anything herself or is she just famous because her son is? She won 64 titles in Scotland during her junior and senior career, but when she toured internationally she says she was out-matched by players in stronger programs. She thus decided to go to university instead of competing herself. She began coaching and was the initial coach for both her sons before handing over the reins as their professional careers bloomed. Aside from her own sons, she has coached multiple players at regional and national level under the auspices of the British tennis governing body, the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA). In December 2011 she was elected to lead the British Fed cup team as their captain.[5] She says she took the job in part to raise the profile of female coaches and alleviate some of the sexism that she says remains in the sport. Murray was awarded an honorary Doctorate by the University of Edinburgh on 8th October 2013.[7] She had previously graduated in French and Business at the University in 1981. Judy is now a respected commentator and summariser with BBC sport and BT Sport and is widely regarded as one of most famous woman in British tennis at the moment |

Oh god *rolleyes*
Let's not turn SCD political.... This is just like when some members of my country tried to make our that Andy Murray's Wimbledon victory was a triumph for Scotland exclusively. |

Great signing. If you watch her on the TV or follow her on Twitter she is very funny and witty and think she will be great to watch.
Judy is a much better signing than the Nancy's, Jo Woods and Penny Lancaster Stewarts of the past. |

I hope she's out first to be honest - that'll take the wind out of her sails. Cannot abide that woman, or her Plug ugly droning voiced son.

Oh dear, no need to take that attitude just because I don't share your opinion about her ! You don't know me so you can't know what I'm like. Plenty of folk can't stand Judy Murray believe me ! When Strictly starts she'll get plenty more dislike on here that's for certain.

I hope everyone is pleasantly surprised by her as I was after watching a documentary about Andy. Like a lot of people, I had already an opinion of her based on the snippets of the camera on her at Wimbledon . She actually came across as a lovely , articulate woman . She loves Strictly ( and Artem ), will try hard and is fit enough to actually compete .
I don't think she deserves to be the whipping boy of the series ,especially before it's even started . |

When does Bonfire Night fall this year?
I hope everyone in Scotland remembers to vote for her when they are on their way home from the firework display. |

I think that might depend on how her VTs are edited, unfortunately. I hope the producers edit her so she comes across well but it'll all depend on who they want to win, or at least get to the latter stages of the competition. Cynical, moi?
Hopefully they'll present her as a woman with achievements in her own right too

To correct the original poster, she has given birth to two Wimbledon champions not just one, and she is now head coach in British Women's tennis. Andy Murray's Wimbledon final had a bigger audience than strictly btw, so to claim that she is not well enough known for Strictly is patently incorrect.

My ex husband has 7 honorary doctorates, plus of course his original first degree and PhD. That doesn't make him a celeb, and it certainly doesn't mean anybody wants to see him on the dance floor!
