Was just saying to the other half the other night I wonder when the new series of Our Zoo will start. We loved it.
Just read above posts and see it won't be back.

I´m really sad there will be no more ´Our Zoo´ but so grateful to the Mottershead family for the legacy they left behind. So happy Chester Zoo is working hard to help animals like orangutans in the wild ´´hanging on the edge of extinction´´ and raising awareness as to how we all can do our bit to help!

It is so sad to hear about the thick haze covering Southeast Asia from forest and peatland fires in Sumatra and Kalimantan. I do hope that the Mottershead family's legacy Our Zoo, Chester Zoo and its charity Act For Wildlife http://www.actforwildlife.org.uk/ can help the orang-utans, tigers, rhinos and other wildlife:

I would love to see a rerun of Our Zoo. It has just finished being shown in Canada with Vision TV saying they will probably have a rerun in 2016. Australia has just had a rerun of Our Zoo having an Our Zoo marathon so why not the UK?

I think the BBC just don't want to be bothered TBH. Despite Charlotte Moore saying "if it's more of the same I'm not interested" it hasn't stopped them from cancelling a number of series which are different. Our Zoo, The Crimson Field and Banished have all gone, yet Dr Foster was in Our Zoo's slot this year which was basically about cheating and revenge, which is like an episode of Eastenders, so hardly groundbreaking.
So, don't hold your breath for a repeat.

I've just visited Chester Zoo, 'Our Zoo'. Lovely to know George Mottershead achieved his dream - it is a wonderful place. I particularly enjoyed the Islands experience all about the islands of Indonesia. I learnt how the zoo is involved in many projects helping conserve the endangered animals there.

A highlight was sitting and having afternoon tea in Oakfield House, which is the large house George bought at auction for £3500.

"Such a shame that a successful family show was shelved for an unknown gamble. This was a show I could sit down of an evening with my 9 year old and watch happily."

I so agree with this comment recently posted on the "Bring back a second series of Our Zoo": http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/b...ies-of-our-zoo

It's sad that this lovely drama series hasn't been repeated at a more suitable time when the whole family can enjoy it together. Mid week at 9pm was too late for a family drama and it was on even later in Scotland.

It would be great if it was shown again over the Christmas School holiday period at an earlier time.

I think most episodes were 21:00h in Scotland but BBC Scotland have a habit of putting some rubbish of their own at that time for one week and move the normal programme to some obscure time.

I enjoyed reading this article about 'Our Zoo' Chester Zoo in the Mirror today. It shows how this marvellous special zoo has continued to grow and be innovative. The zoo raises awareness of critically endangered species and the how their natural habitat is being destroyed. It is involved in many conservation and research projects around the world aimed at helping save animals threatened with extinction in the wild. The article also has a link to an earlier article about the zoo's early days and what is was like for the founder's daughter June Mottershead to grow up there while the zoo was struggling to become established:

I so agree. I've just read about the baby Brazilian tapir, which was born at Chester Zoo at the weekend and how Chester Zoo is involved in conservation projects in Brazil aimed at protecting this species in the wild. The tapirs' population in the wild has declined by a worrying 30% in just the last 30 years so it is good to know that this charity is raising awareness of the plight of endangered species and trying to do something to help protect them.

I've just read Channel 4 has commissioned a new documentary for 2016 all about what 'Our Zoo' is like today called 'The Secret Life of Chester Zoo':

I just love reading about the great conservation work charity Chester Zoo, BBC one's 'Our Zoo' does. This BBC link explains how the zoo is trying to help save the beautiful Javan Magpie, which sadly is facing extinction on the island of Java, Indonesia due to hunting. Today it is estimated there are only one hundred of these birds left.

I'm so very grateful to the Mottershead family, who despite facing a huge struggle in the 1930s and 40s, managed to open this very special zoo, which is so proactive in trying to raise awareness and help save critically endangered species.

Just before Christmas, 85 years ago, the Mottershead's moved into Oakfield House in the village of Upton, Chester. Here the late June Mottershead describes the night she, her mother and sister Muriel arrived at the house in December 1930. Her father was away in Matlock collecting two Himalayan Bears he'd been offered:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BHmJwJt1oUI

Today visitors to Chester Zoo can visit this beautiful mansion and even June's bedroom. I'm glad her father George managed to obtain the mortgage to buy the house at auction for only £3500 as I love this innovative zoo and the work it is doing for conservation.

Just published today in the Chester Chronicle: "Lemurs watching the rare solar eclipse, a whole host of births, innovative conservation projects around the globe and the opening of the UK’s largest ever zoo development, Islands.

Here, Chester Zoo ( BBC Our Zoo) relives the moments that defined 2015:"

http://www.chesterchronicle.co.uk/wh...-2015-10644536

This article highlights this years achievements and shows what 'Our Zoo' is like today.

The role it is playing in the conservation of critically endangered species is so important and I hope it becomes more and more proactive and innovative in this area.

Our relations are loving 'Our Zoo' in Australia, where it has just started being shown on ABC at 7:30 pm on a Saturday and repeated at 1 pm on a Sunday. I wish it has been shown at these more family friendly times rather than the 9pm Wednesday time slot it was given:

http://www.tvtonight.com.au/2015/12/...our-zoo-2.html

"FREE TO AIR

OUR ZOO, JANUARY 2, ABC1, 7.30pm

This quirky six-part series is based on the true story of George Mottershead (played by Inspector George Gently's Lee Ingleby), who founded the Chester Zoo in Britain in the 1930s, a zoological garden still regarded as one of the best in the world today. The dramatisation follows the story of Mottershead who, after suffering what we would probably call PTSD today after his service in the Great War, decided to act on a childhood dream of opening a zoo like no other – one that had no cages. George starts buying unwanted animals, but he lives with his parents Lucy (Anne Reid) and Albert (Peter Wright) and his wife Lizzie (Liz White) and daughters (Amelia Clarkson and Honor Kneafsey), who are at first less than impressed with his seemingly insane idea – especially when George sells the family business to set up his dream zoo. Our Zoo is classic BBC weekend viewing – it's a period drama set in the north, after all – but the fact it's a true story helps keep the concept from being too sentimental. Plus: cute animal antics; you can't go wrong."

They're also enjoying Our Zoo in South Africa....the series has just finished but it will be shown again in February:

I would compare Our Zoo to the likes of Downton Abbey. Briliant acting, filming of the highest quality. Should not be given up on. Better advertising is needed. I stumbled across it while flipping channels.

Cohen Rinkwest South Africa, Durban Jan 03, 2016

The show was the first in a long time that I was excited enough to watch in actual time, and not reordered and watched later. Please bring it back. I need to see how the baby penguin did.

I found this great review of 'Our Zoo' which sums up my feelings about the series:

http://bit.ly/1Ok2qA9

A look back at BBC One's Our Zoo, which told the story of Chester Zoo's early days by

Vincent Ralph, HITC Lifestyle

Wednesday evening saw the conclusion of BBC One’s six-part series Our Zoo and I for one was sad to see it end so soon.

I began the series with trepidation – and this from someone who currently lives not far from Chester Zoo, a place I have visited on more than one occasion. I could not put my finger on exactly what failed to hook me prior to its broadcast; only that it did not look ‘my cup of tea’.

How wrong I was.

By the end of the series I had become fully immersed in the Mottershead family’s lives, as they strived to get their idea for a zoo in Upton off the ground in the face of fierce opposition from the majority of the village’s residents.

Like any programme based on a true story, the magic was not in discovering if George Mottershead – played by the impressive Lee Ingleby – finally fulfilled his dream but how he did it. And so we were taken on a six-part journey through one man’s passion project that at times threatened to tear his family apart, with a supporting cast – both human and animal – that was exemplary.

The final episode centred around a planning appeal that saw truths revealed, lessons learned on all sides and George finally quell the temper that had threatened to rob him of his dream. But the wonder of the show is that it somehow kept you guessing, even though history told us there was a happy ending long before we heard a cheer behind the closed door of Oakfield Manor.

Our Zoo would have been a perfect Sunday afternoon experience, for children and parents alike to enjoy the many wonderful messages writer Matt Charman conveyed in his script. So one can only hope that it is repeated at an earlier time in the near future, for young viewers to enjoy the animals on show and the life lessons that were subtly revealed.
Special praise must go to Honor Kneafsey, who played the younger Mottershead daughter June, and Anne Reid, who played George’s mother Lucy. Both stole the show on more than one occasion, as did the plethora of animals that appeared in the series.

In short, Our Zoo was a great period drama that should be enjoyed by all the family. It will also ensure I am back at Chester Zoo in the coming months, to see everything with fresh eyes; and you can be sure I will not be the only one.
