Liz Forsyth, Australia, Adelaide. Jan 17, 2016

This delightful series has been a joy to watch. I am living in Australia, so as its only just been shown here , am a little behind the times. I've been looking on line for series 2... And well...where is it? ,! Surely such a good series hasn't been 'let go''.

Jasper Kilby, Australia, Canberra. Jan 17, 2016

Great show, whole family loves it.

David Downing, United Kingdom, Leicester. Jan 14, 2016

One of the best light hearted but semi factual dramas to grace our screens.

Delmar Werner, United States, Minneapolis. Jan 14, 2016

Bring on Season 2

Great to see Liz White in Call the Midwife, she is such a talented actress.

In Our Zoo, her character Lizzie Mottershead was such a great role model for young women. She was strong, confident and able to stand up for what she believed as well as a supportive, caring wife and mother. Her husband George had the dream of a zoo without bars but Lizzie ensured it became a reality. Together they made a great team working hard to achieve their goal.

It would to be good to see more positive role models on TV for women rather than women who are obsessed with their looks and materialistic, sending the message it's not what you do but how you look that's important.

Rare black rhino birth captured on Chester Zoo 'Our Zoo' CCTV

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/news...-Zoo-CCTV.html

Rhinos are under threat in the wild from illegal poachers, who kill them for their horns. Rhino horn is currently changing hands for more per gram than both gold and cocaine In just over the last century 98% of the black rhino population has been lost.

Sadly 'Our Zoo' may not be returning to the BBC, but you'll be able to see behind the scenes at Chester Zoo in February on Channel 4 starting on February 2nd. 'The Secret Life of the Zoo' will offer viewers a peak behind the scenes at what is today the most popular attraction outside London:

How much I agree with your last para. British TV seems to have forgotten how to so positive female role models - theyre either tarts with hearts on EastEnders or backstabbing careerists on Holby/Casualty

'Our Zoo' continues to grow and care for endangered species.

http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-merseyside-35391785

'A new "playground" for endangered orangutans and gibbons has opened at Chester Zoo.

Seven Sumatran orangutans and three silvery gibbons will use the new climbing poles, trees and sway poles....

Conservationists estimate that fewer than 6,500 Sumatran orangutans and fewer than 4,500 silvery gibbons are left in the wild.'

The exhibit is part of the zoo's Ł30m Islands project which is home to animals including tigers.

Tim Rowlands, curator of mammals, said without "vital conservation efforts" the primates could become extinct in the near future.'

Sadly, the last large area of rainforest, the Leuser ecosystem, left on Sumatra is under threat. Most of the rainforest on the island has already been cut down and replaced by palm oil. Much of this palm oil is shipped to Europe and ends up in products on our supermarket shelves.

You can help by taking 'Our Zoo' Chester Zoo led charity 'Act for Wildlife's' #PalmOilChallenge or by #GoingOrangeforOrangutans

I agree we need more positive stronger role models on TV, like George and Lizzie Mottershead, who don't just care about and are focused on themselves. The World definitely today needs 'a little bit of beauty brought back' and changes do need to happen if we're not just going to trash our Planet. Today there's around just 650 black rhino left in Africa - most of the population wiped out in the last few decades; the ocean has areas full of plastic trash, one twice the size of France; vast areas of rainforest are being replaced by palm oil, which ends up in products in our supermarkets and caused a toxic haze covering most of SE Asia for several months this summer; and there's a billion people without access to clean water.

People, particularly the young, need to be inspired to change their mindset and to believe and have hope that they can make a positive difference. George Mottershead, who wasn't rich, dreamed of building a zoo without cages in the 1930s after visiting a zoo and seeing an elephant chained and behind bars and created Chester Zoo. There's too many TV programmes inspiring and encouraging the young just to be self obsessed and to over consume, having a negative impact and causing the problems the Planet is facing today.

Watch 'Our Zoo' Chester Zoo's tiny baby black Rhino go walk about. It's sad there are only just around 650 left in Africa due to poaching for their horn: http://www.chesterchronicle.co.uk/wh...rhino-10787371

"For those who felt hard done by when the BBC chose not to commission a second series of Our Zoo, the highly acclaimed drama starring Anne Reid that told how the Mottershead family created Chester Zoo in the 1930s, there's good news. Channel 4 has picked up the mantle with a new fly-on-the-wall documentary series that goes behind the scenes at the famous zoo - and it's just as emotional as the drama.

From the mating rituals of the tarantulas to a baby giraffe dropping 6ft through the air as it's born, there's never a dull moment here. Part wildlife programme, part soap opera, The Secret Life Of The Zoo uses special filming techniques to capture the animals and their keepers - and shed light on the species-saving work that goes on at the pioneering institution..."

The Secret Life of the Zoo (C4, 8pm)
Looking forward to seeing behind the scenes at 'Our Zoo' tonight at 8pm on Channel 4:

New series. Documentary revealing the secret life of the animals of Chester Zoo, one of Britain's most popular zoos, using new micro-rig technology to capture the behaviour of the animals and their close relationships with their keepers. In the first episode, the zoo's Asian elephant family welcome a new arrival. Grumpy matriarch Thi has been pregnant for almost two years and is reaching the end of her tether. She's given birth to a stillborn baby in the past, so the keepers have a close eye on her. Cameras also follow Red panda Jung, who has been getting the cold shoulder from his partner Nima since they had two cubs.

'Our Zoo' was one of the best and most original dramas the BBC has produced in recent years, with so much material to work with for future series. I'm loving the new documentary 'The Secret Life of the Zoo' on Channel 4 about Chester Zoo, which shows what a special place the Mottershead family created. It's such a pity the BBC didn't commission another series of 'Our Zoo'.

The Secret Life of the Zoo just shows how much Chester Zoo cares for animals and promotes conservation and preservation of species. Rud and Spike the Penguins were adorable. The Sumatran Tigers are such beautiful animals. Chester Zoo is also helping protect tigers in the wild in Nepal http://www.actforwildlife.org.uk/blog/blog/catposts/15

Just so love the Mottershead legacy...I've been reading about the work a team from Chester Zoo have been doing in Madagascar to help protect a critically endangered frog!

Going to relax and watch 'Our Zoo' with the family this Valentines day. It is such a heart warming story of hope and perseverance...

The Mottershead legacy continues to care for animals and aspires to be the BEST conservation charity for animals. I do hope it succeeds as there are so many animals on the Planet facing extinction.

"The Secret Life of the Zoo" on Channel 4 on Tuesdays at 8pm gives a real insight into the zoo today:

"It's not just about the 20,000 extraordinary animals but also the 700 people hard at work here, doing everything we can to keep this HUGE, complicated, wonderful place going...

...from looking after the animals to discovering new ways to do conservation and giving our guests an inspirational day out.

We work hard because we love animals, we care about nature, we love Chester Zoo and we want to be the BEST conservation charity in the world!"

Article in Sunshine Coast Daily today about the series Our Zoo, which has just been shown on ABC in Australia:

http://www.sunshinecoastdaily.com.au...umphs/2929651/

"SQUARE EYES: BBC series of 1930s captures triumphs

I'VE always admired the conservation work and educational value of zoos. So when Our Zoo aired on ABC each Saturday night for the past six weeks I was an eager viewer.

Although it is set in 1930s Upton, England, it is a relatable tale of the underdog triumphing over impossible odds and a bunch of NIMBY (Not In My Back Yard) folk.

Based on the true story of Chester Zoo, the six-part series focussed on family values and pulling together in adversity.

Nobody quite does a period drama like the British, and BBC in particular. It's something other production companies try and fail miserably to do.

In true BBC style, the mini-series captures the 1930s period down to the finest detail.

The costumes, sets, props and script relay what one might imagine life was like at the time for a forward-thinking man and his family living in a town where the narrow-minded Vicar ruled the roost.

Sophia Myles's portrayal of Lady Katherine Longmore depicts the struggles women faced when their moral values were in question, and was nothing short of brilliant.

Her talent coupled with her English-rose beauty made her the perfect choice to play the shy and reclusive Lady Katherine.

Lee Ingleby and Liz White, who play George and Lizzie Mottershead, were a brilliant choice for the hardworking couple determined to follow their dreams.

Ingleby was superb as the patriarch of the Mottershead family. He managed to not only act out what the scriptwriters asked of him, but he had me believing he felt all of George's elation, pain and frustration throughout the series.

The last part of Our Zoo was aired last week, so unfortunately there will be no more George and Lizzie on our screens showing us how to be a winner even when it seems like the whole world is against you.

My wish would be for a second season of Our Zoo or even a rerun."

Congratulations Chester Zoo "Our Zoo" on your nomination for a tourism Oscar and for your focus on conservation!

http://www.chesterchronicle.co.uk/ne...ional-10893525

"Chester Zoo has been shortlisted for a national award, which honours the best of English tourism.

The Upton attraction is one of five nominees in the category of Large Visitor Attraction of The Year at the VisitEngland Awards 2016, dubbed the Tourism Oscars.

Managing director Jamie Christon said: “We’re extremely proud to be a finalist of what represents the pinnacle of achievement in the tourism industry in this country.

As a conservation and education charity it’s very, very pleasing for us to be recognised for the work we do here at the zoo, as the more successful we are, the more great work we can do to protect highly threatened species all around the world."

Its prejudice. They were quite happy to recommission Luther after appalling ratings for series1, but wouldnt do the same for Our Zoo, despite quite good ratings.

Our Zoo's ratings were very good considering it was up against Scott and Bailey on ITV and I think it did beat it on some occasions. The AI for Our Zoo was always high, being in the high 80s and even hit the heady heights of 90s too.
They never really gave a proper reason for it's cancellation, just the usual gubbins about making hard choices and making room for new drama (which Our Zoo was of course!).
