I'm not saying they will be off the air by then but I doubt they'd be able to keep going as they are at the moment if advertisers leave for UTV. If they don't have the viewers they won't get the advertisers, it's that simple. They already cut back News to 4 and a half days because they couldn't afford to run a news service after 6pm on a Friday. They have no regular Irish show going out in primetime that gets any sort of decent audience. The replacements for the soap aren't exactly inspiring and shows that might be decent (Red Rock) won't have the basic support of another ratings winning programmes.
I could be wrong of course but just look at the ratings for the last 12 months. They have to turn into a totally different broadcasting beast overnight and that's very unlikely to happen.
They had a new show lined up for 7 every night and can't go ahead with it because of lack of funds

They claim it's because the schedule is so packed!
So every night at 7, Australian Daytime Filler (at best) Nothing to Declare is going out instead. That's followed by the truly terrible Lie. Meanwhile RTE and UTV Ireland are buillding their audience for the evening with their respective offerings.
They were hoping that UTV would buy them out but that didn't happen.

Their owners are hoping that someone (anyone) will come along and buy the operation but why would anyone do that now when you can just start up new and debt free. So yes if in say 8 or 9 months when it looks like there are going to be a lot of losses the plug could be pulled.
