I didn't realise either their daily schedule was going to be so dreadful. At the moment, they have just Corrie and Emmerdale plus a load of unwatchable dross.
I think from Sunday night we will see an improvement with 3 hours of brand new shows

7pm Diversity Live
8.00 Foyle's War

Then on Monday there news service begins

Yes, they will surely improve as the weeks go on (but they're coming from a bad starting point....it resembles a second rate digital channel channel at the moment).

I do have one or two doubts whether the channel will even survive. TV3 hit the ground running when they were first launched and were nowhere near as bad as UTVI (or what we have seen so far of it).

For there coverage to work they need to be live at the stadium for every Ireland game and the semi-finals and final.
Not really essential, RTÉ are never live from the stadium for any international tournament they cover, whether ireland are involved or not. This doesn't affect their coverage or ratings.

Clearly TV3 will use their own commentators for every single game, and have their own TV panel for all matches. I would imagine though that it will all be coming from their studios in Ballymount.
I don't think they will. Obviously on the irish games and bigger games they will but I can't imagine them doing it for lesser games. That's assuming they will show all the games themselves and not sell some on to rival channels.

Currently, Sky HD customers in the UK can receive UTV Ireland by manually tuning to:

12.012
V
29.5
3/4
DVB-S2
I knew this a few days ago - probably not good to tell everyone including sky of the glitch

I can't imagine they would show any game with ITV commentary, that would look pretty poor when they have exclusive rights for Ireland.

There will be an international feed for all games, they could use this.

Peter Pan Live is against Toy Story 3 on Rte One, The Princess Diaries, wild things and top gear on Rte 2. While there is Ant and Dec (repeat) and The Algorithm on TV 3
This looks dreadful! It's like some bad repeats channel at the moment. I had a look at the schedules for during the week and the daytime line up is identical every day. I don't even know how long this channel can survive.

. If we assume that their News Show at ten gets 140,000 (which would be conservative SKY NEWS Ireland which was only in 60% of houses was bringing in 135,000 Avg for it's 10.00pm Bulletin in 2006 and had far less resources)

This is not true. sky news ireland launched with 35,000 and quickly dropped down to average 12,000 - 20,000 before being removed from the schedule within the year.
UTVI face an uphill struggle to get viewers into this news slot. I think your 140,000 over the long term will be well off the mark. TV3 used to do a nightly news but couldn't sustain it, due to low viewing figures and it was a decent effort on their part, especially their sport coverage on the news.
In fact Sky was getting an Average of 135,000 in October 2006 and 65,000 for it's earlier News Bulletin. No matter what you think of Sky they gave it a chance to succeed. (However many of the Staff would possibly disagree with that)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sky_News_Ireland

TV3 Didn't Drop the Nightly News at the time because of Low viewing figures, they Morphed it into Vincent Browne who they had signed up. When He came along figures picked up. He Regularly gets 140,000 at 11pm at Night which when you consider the time is very respectable. Plus his show starts cold, often with the show before it having a totally different audience.

So UTV Ireland expecting 140,000 or More at 10pm (especially if it's a decent bulletin) is more than realistic.

Also you have to consider the reasons that UTV started in the south, If they're not going to get figures like 140,000 for the 10pm bulletin or more for certain other shows they won't make money and the station will close.

As for TV3 ditching it's late night sports bulletin, that was a major fault. but they couldn't afford to broadcast it and Vincent. Ratings wise it also did well for the 11.30 slot.

Plus don't forget their Quiz and Psychics had to start at 12 on the dot.

In the UK BBC 1 and ITV/STV/UTV NI have the same identical line up every weekday between 6am and 7pm and have been doing it for years and it is quite successful. No reason why following the same plan in Ireland wont work for UTV Ireland.

Seriously though, what were any of you down there expecting?
This is UTV for Christ's sake.
To expect anything other than sub lowest common denominator dross was pie in the sky stuff.
If RTE and the others are so bad that you thought any UTV crud would be a step up in standard then i really feel for you down there, i really do.

That's nothing unusual, most channels have the same daytime line up every weekday! BBC One and ITV to name but two.

TV3 have the rights. Will they buy ITV's domestic coverage, or will they use their own ground resources to augment world feed?
TV3 have never been compelled to buy sporting coverage from ITV before. Why would they bother now?

For there coverage to work they need to be live at the stadium for every Ireland game and the semi-finals and final.
That really isn't an important part of the coverage at all. RTÉ never did it and they seemed to manage ok. It is a waste of money.

I do notice some viewers from the UK on this site insist on it. Who cares so long as the game is shown live.

How does any channel survive with identical daytime schedules everyday

It seems we've lost a whole load of regular ITV programming, including their entire news and sports output just so we can have a few local news bulletins and a weekly Pat Kenny current affairs show. That's hardly a good trade off, in fact it's a useless one.

I think it is something that UK viewers have become a custom too as most sport comes from the venue

Only UPC viewers have lost them. If those programmes are that important to you then you can have them back for a one off cost.

Monday Night Football on Sky Sports does just fine from a studio as does Saturday Night Football.

But most big sporting events come from the venue or host city/country. Darts, snooker, premier league footy on bt and sky(except Monday and Saturday games), Fa cup, Scottish footy, champions league, Europa league, World Cup

Me being a UPC customer. Whatever about UTV and the one off cost, you'd wonder if this new channel can even survive. Their schedule looks absolutely dire and even the inclusion of things like daily Irish news bulletins and a weekly current affairs show is hardly going to improve matters.
