Well it's all change now as one visa will do both countries.

It's the same for China and they'll be bringing in the same regulation for almost all countries outside the EU and the usual exceptions I presume US/Canada etc.
There's huge advantage for the Irish Tourism industry that's going after Chinese Customers.
