The RTE policy, (which the other stations appear to be following) is to only make ratings public when exceptionally high, or of selected relevance. For once, they've released the weekly top ten, as they were all on One - 571,000 for The Voice, it seems:

Indeed, only 1 million of the population of 4 million have lost UTV NI and if they can put up a satellite dish, they can get it back.

I"ve heard differently from someone connected in TV3, However my source might be wrong. Does your source have a connection with TV3 or Carnival?

Hmm that doesn't sound great for its launch. The first three series averages have all been in the high 500,000's and higher that that.(According to Wikipedia)

I think they know that many people in the Republic cannot receive terrestrial overspill from the UK and don't have satellite dishes or cable.

Nothing to do with sources, it's a fact that Itv have the worldwide premier rights to Downton and TV3 cannot show this series at the same time as ITV. TV3 buy this series from Carnival and not Itv.

Did they not show the first series at 10pm after it had finished on itv

I did wonder about the idea that it's done to facilitate The Xtra Factor on Sundays. That show only attracts 500k viewers in the UK, a mere pittance compared to the main programme.

I'm not sure on that particular deal but I'd imagine it's something similar.

Not doubting you but my source said it was scheduling, However, if you can show your source or at least point us in the direction of the article or press release, or indeed if you know someone within Carnival or TV3. Obviously you don't have to name anyone, just a vague idea if it's a person, or a link if it's a fact.

I worked in media marketing for a few years, not for TV3 though!!! Although I know quite a few of their staff, well a lot of them are ex staff now, people move around quite a bit in the media industry.

It's different, less news content, more analysis. They need to put those bloody tablets down, so pointless!!

Same here, it's a small country. We all know people in RTE/TV3/UTV, but I'm asking you who actually said it to you, was it a member of TV3 staff or someone in Media Marketing. The person that told me was in TV3 behind the scenes (has moved on over the last 12 months) as I actually brought up the same point to them because it makes no sense.

I'm just tuning in now. Do they have a special sports section?

It's not right yet... I think it's going to need a few weeks to bed in. But it does seem to be a very good product, It's basically a proper bulletin and much closer to Channel 4 News than say ITV News, far more serious so far. (which is a good thing)

Well Nick Harper is not ITN, as far as I know. He's Feature Story News which supplies news all over the place. Decent organisation but one or two odd sounding newsreaders on their radio broadcasts.

Someone from a well known company had enquired with me about the possibility of advertising their product on TV and wanted to know what stations/shows would best suit them. They had Downton type shows in mind. It was while researching for them that I found out about ITV's deal re Downton. Ironically enough this company actually ended up getting a good deal with UTV NI.

Fair enough. What I was told was that Xtra Factor was a better fit for the station especally as Downton wasn't on half the Autumn Season. Plus they were very happy with Xtra Factor's figures.

So that's the first ep of Ireland Live at 10. It's got the makings of a great show but it's not there yet. Sport is restricted to a chat and 1 report. Which is fine as there's plenty of sport everywhere else.
However, you'd need to have watched news elsewhere to know everything that's going on in the world. It needs a summary of the other days news and the currencies and stocks.

Ya they could badly do with a World News 60 second update thrown in midway .. Still though I like it, streets above anything TV3 has done over a decade.

Problem with TV3 has always been lack of cash rather than lack of talent. Money seems to have been pumped into this. TV3 did do half decent news before 2006, but since then it's been cutback after cutback. The 5.30 looks threadbare after that.

Plus No one was unlucky enough to get caught picking his nose first night on air, Like a certain TV3 Anchor. The White Van at 6.30 was scary.
