Haha the parents are asking when Marty Whelan is back with Winning Streak .. Not good

Not at all, The show will still get great ratings. It's a fight then for second between TV3 and UTV and I would probably give TV3 the edge for the simple reason Ray Foley has a following.

If the Cube is New next week it would win second, but that lineup on RTE1 on Sat from 8.00 will keep it on top for 2015.

Again that would be your Dublin Media heads saying Winning Streak wasn't cool (it isn't) It was behind the times (it was) and that a new show will freshen up the ratings and sales for the tickets. Winning Streak is Due back Mid Summer and I don't think it will be going anywhere again.

This show could actually effect ticket sales, it's that dull. If sales fall it will be remodeled within days. There's a lot of cash riding on this show for the new owners of the lottery.

I don't think people are understanding the following RTÉ gets whatever programme they broadcast .. The amount of times they have actually been beaten by TV3 in general programming (apart from the ITV soaps) historically has been very little.

RTÉ's grip on Irish broadcasting is very tight indeed.

And of course, Lucinda Creighton's new political party gets its TV launch after the Nine O'Clock News, though Brendan O'Connor usually has no competition in that slot anyway.

Yes it is a repeat, the advert with Graham Norton says join me Sunday night's at 10pm on UtvI -the new home for Graham Norton show in Ireland. Their repeat show is the following Saturday at 11pm, which is really confusing scheduling. So the current GN show resumed on BBC ONE last night, the same episode airs on UtvI on Sunday nights. It repeats on on BBC One on Monday nights. BBC One airs a new episode on Friday and UtvI shows a repeat of the previous week on Saturdays. And just to muddy the water's 3E will air repeats on Saturday nights at 9pm lol.

In fairness to RTÉ, Winning Streak is a tired format and ratings for it are on a continuing downward spiral. I've no issue with them trying a new show. Unfortunately the one they've replaced it with is a truly dreadful offering. I can't for the life of me see what they see in Nicky Byrne. He's a damp squib. It's not as if he is doing anything great ratings wise on the radio and as I've already said it's Jenny Greene who carries him on that.

Another awful presenter on RTÉ, a decent journalist though, I'll give him that.

Used to watch Winning Streak back in the day Derek mooney was the host then or Laura Woods sometimes
what i liked about it was the contestants seemed like Normal people and they won some decent prizes not like the Air-Brushed camera friendly types we see on our lottery or quiz shows i often suspect they're not real but aspiring actors instead as they seem a little to relaxed on TV to me

Replacing Winning Streak is a good idea, but not with this. Plus it's not the presenter that's the problem (I think anyone would have a problem presenting this) It's the format. It felt like a lot less money was been given away and almost as if money was been taken away rather than given. Spinning a wheel at the end of a show might be old and boring but it's simple, everyone understands it and there is some excitement every time.

I don't think there is any source. Somebody suggested that may have put in a bid through a forum, but nothing in the media about it.

Stars In Their Eyes got a low 3.5m on ITV last night. Doesn't hold much hope for the figure on UTVi. Wouldn't be surprised if the repeat of Ant & Dec Takeaway beat it last night.

I can't find any reputable news source about this matter but it would not surprise me at all if UTVI were to compete with TV3 for the rights to broadcast Champions League football matches.

In the UK 'Stars in Their Eyes' was against 'The Voice UK' on BBC 1. In Ireland it was against 'Shrek 2' on rte 1 and a repeat of Ant and Dec on TV3 as mentioned above. So I think it will do quite well in Ireland.

No, just no. It will have been beaten by TVUK on BBC ONE in Ireland too.

Not likely at all. The UK rights were wrapped up before the irish rights were complete. Once ITV lost the UK rights, there wasn't a mission UtvI were going to even bid for these rights. Some people seem to think UtvI have some endless pit of resources. They don't. They are a new commercial business, who have invested a lot of money starting up the station. Sporting rights will not be on their agenda for some time, regardless of any empty quotes about looking at sports rights as and when they become available. That's all they'll be doing....looking at them.

That's what I thought (unless Irishfeen can advise differently).

Somebody suggesting something on an internet forum is certainly not the same as it being "reported".

The only thing I have watched on UTVI is Corrie. TV3 were the much better channel last week with lots of new content.

I can still access UTV and ITV. I'm not interested in repeats of Doc Martin, Midsomer Murders, Suprise Surprise, Benidorm, Foyle's War and Undeniable. At least simulcast with the main channel like UTV do nine times out of ten.

This UTVI is more STV than UTV. Frankly, they'll need to do a lot better than this to get viewers.

IrishMikee, bit OT but a quick question.

Con you subscribe to the BT Sports channels in the RoI? They're on the Sky platform, but in the UK sold via a BT account. In the RoI can you subscribe a via Sky sub?

*EDIT* OK, should have Googled rather tan asked obvious question - apologies.

BT Sports and ESPN are available in the R0I via a Setanta subscription. They don't sell BT Sport or ESPN in NI, but do sell their own channels.

http://www.setanta.com/ie/subscribe/

*WISH* - that BT Sport takes over/licences Premier Sport, and shown N American Ice Hockey in HD. Lets go Caps!

UTV Ireland released a statement which said that they are showing older eps of Foyle's War as they hadnt aired on an Irish channel before but would show the new eps soon. I take this is the same with the other shows mentioned above

They cant simulcast with utv ni all the time as they dont own the rights to all ITV shows

Thanks for that link, stv viewer, and there's quite a promising statement from UTVI in that article about their sports rights intentions:

Quote:
“What about the live sports coverage shown on ITV. Will that be available on UTV Ireland?

The spokesperson told DailyEdge.ie:

Due to rights packages sewn up by other broadcasters, not at the moment. However we will look at the various sports packages when they become available.

It's a very lame excuse. The episodes of Foyle's war have aired in Ireland before, thanks to UTV.

It's very easy to simulcast with UTV NI - they've just done it with most of their shows, yet they broadcast older episodes instead of the new ones that they have rights to.

The programmes that they air in the daytime like Lorraine, This Morning and Loose Women plug ITV shows throughout the week - giving the UTV Ireland viewer the impression that those episodes will be broadcast on the channel. It's silly to have a star from Birds Of A Feather talking to Phil and Holly on This Morning about the storyline for the new episode on Thursday night, and then when the viewer reaches Thursday night - UTV Ireland instead broadcast older episodes.
