TV3 confirm that from the 8th of January, UTV Ireland will be re-branded as "Be3", with a dedicated focus on "female-oriented programming". TV3 will be the main channel, with soaps, current affairs, and leading imports, while 3e will be the entertainment channel, broadcasting Big Brother, among other programmes.

At least there's some rationality behind the new TV3 channel strategy although I wonder just how many staff will be "let go".

There are 61 jobs going from UTV Ireland with 40 available at TV3, so at least 21.

Also Be3 starts on the 9th, not the 8th.

Wouldn't have thought so, otherwise TV3 just spent a lot of money buying effectively nothing.

You are aware that just wanting something doesn't mean it will happen, right?

Of course, UTV was NEVER on "the EPG" on all but one platform in Ireland anyway.

On another note, I have to laugh at an independent Ireland slavishly following UK channel naming convention.

3E (like E4) is the youth focused channel and BE3 (like ITVBe) will be more female oriented. Maybe they thought putting the letters in a different place - ie before as opposed to after the numeric, and vice versa, that nobody would notice.

Isn't that what I said?

In other words they were on "the" EPG on cable but not on any other platform...

Your posts are very insular. There is more than one TV platform in Ireland so "the EPG" means nothing without specifics.

Why would I have to email ITV about anything?

I'll ask you again: why would I "need" to email them about anything at all? What are you reading in my post that suggests to you that I either want, or need, to do such a thing?

Be3 is going on 106 on Virgin Media Ireland so it looks like 3e will be moved up to 105 displacing Sky Sports Mix which is on 400 anyway.

Because utv Ireland will be axed it was possible that utv northern Ireland
Well be available in Ireland again and people in Ireland want to watch all the itv shows from utv that's why utv Ireland was a flop from day 1 because programmes like the itv news never came to utv Ireland

UTV IS available across the whole of Ireland, it has been for a number of years.

As for appearing on cable again, that ship has sailed.

Rights for ITV shows in the Republic are now in the hands of an aggressive competitor.

How?

It doesn't appear in the channel lineups of Saorview, Sky, Virgin Media, eir or Vodafone.

Unless you mean by manually tuning a satellite receiver, something no normal consumer would do.

UTV don't have the rights to broadcast in the ROI and the rights for ITV programmes are now with TV3.

Just because a "normal consumer" wouldn't do something doesn't make it any less available

Anybody with a Freesat receiver bought in Ireland has it on their EPG.

And most satellite receivers wouldn't need manual tuning to receive it but anybody with a satellite receiver would, obviously, be in the habit of tuning or retuning it.

There is the "other channels" menu on a Sky receiver...

And it is also available terrestrially over a fair proportion of the country.

As for the bit in bold, it appears you just read the included part of the post you quoted else you'd've realised there was no need for it
