A load of crap so. If they don't have Irish telephone numbers for those daytime tv phone in competitions then I really do not think that they should air them.

That's exactly what I was thinking - its going to be a bit stupid if people in Ireland are told repeatedly about a competition that they can't even enter.. maybe they might run their own competitions.

Why not just to provide the link you use to find them and let people look for themselves and save the link for their own use..

This is a bit strange UTV Ireland has decided against showing Benidorm at 9pm on Friday like Itv from 2nd January. UTV Ireland has decided to show it from Thursday the 8th January at 9pm.

Would this alternative weekday schedule work?
5:00pm The Chase
6:00pm UTV Live The latest news from the North of Ireland
6:30pm Ireland Live

It could but personally I think UTV Ireland need a breakfast and lunchtime news programme .

Breakfast could be
7am UTV News
7.15 Loose Women
8.15 Utv News
8.30 Lorraine.

Lunch news could be at

1.30 Utv News
Followed by
2pm Jeremy Kyle Show
3.00 Judge Rinder
4.00 Fat Pets: Slimmer of the year
5.00 The Chase
6.00 Utv Live (like suggested above)
6.30 Ireland live

News from NI is very much irrevalent for us in the south (for the most) - I cannot remember the last time I watched UTVNI or BBCNI news broadcasts.

You can be assured that UTVI would not be taking away any audience whatsoever from RTÉ or TV3... The Simpsons on RTÉ 2 would do better then Ulster News.

So Doc Martin on Monday nights at 9 and no lunchtime news”

Due to Christmas, etc., I've only just caught up with this thread and I just wanted to say thanks for providing this info for it is appreciated. It appears that there's quite a lot of commonality between UTV Ireland and UTV NI, so viewers who can't get UTV Ireland for one reason or another won't really be missing that much.

That could change in the future.. for instance the MD of UTV said on Twitter that sport would appear on the channel as rights become available - encryption means they could go for any rights they want for Ireland.

Does any channel in Ireland show the England football games as they may go for them as UTV NI has those rights and in sure they would be cheap. But I dont know how much demand there would be

I wouldn't imagine English international games would do well here but Premier League games are big business here - UTVI could bid for Sat 3pm games.

Thanks stv.

I see TV3 are showing the new series of Broadchurch next Monday at 10pm but the soaps will leave a big hole in their schedule.

The promotion for Red Rock has been big with billboards everywhere and trailers in most ad breaks. They can't afford for it to fail.

English International Games would do well in the Republic... If they were competitive. England's Qualifying Games in recent years have been as dull as ditchwater. The current group they're in is possibly one of the easiest I've ever seen.

I think Setanta have the rights anyway but I really don't think they would do that well on terrestrial TV - whoever wants to watch England play can watch ITV on FTA satellite.

The big sports rights in Ireland are the GAA, Irish Rugby/Soccer Internationals, Premier League, Heineken Cup and the Champions League.

What about Scottish football Celtic and Rangers games would they rate well in Ireland

The Old Firm games used to be broadcast on RTÉ and did well enough - there is a large following for Celtic in Ireland but the run of the mill Scottish Premiership match won't get big viewership... United, Liverpool, Arsenal would be the biggest supported teams by a considerable margin and are almost always chosen as first pick by RTÉ and TV3 on Tue and Wen CL nights.

They could pick up the rights to just Celtics games

I presume BT have Irish and UK rights tied up - I think there would be easier/more successful rights up for grabs.

I doubt UTVIRE has much of a budget for sport at the moment, looking at their first ten days of scheduling it looks like they have a budget for **** all. They are relying heavily on Emmerdale and Corrie to bump up their share. Whilst these programmes will deliver big audiences, they do not deliver a large abc1 audience, where the money is at. TV3 have been losing money on these two programmes over the past number of years, particularly Emmerdale. It's still difficult to make out what way TV3's schedule will look in the future, as they are still showing a large staple of ITV's shows into January. It's hard to know when contracts end and which of ITV's programmes they've retained. Big expectations for Red Rock for them. I've been very impressed with the advertising campaign they've run for this, it's really garnered a lot of interest.
