“Moffat adds: “I’m aware that I have a sentimental tendency to whack people back on their feet again – you can have several deaths in one lifetime, apparently – and I’m aware that that’s a weakness, so I thought in our new, scary universe we’d make sure we off some people, and that would make it more exciting and more visceral.”

I think we now live in an age where everyone wants to get their word out and in this day of social media most of it is constructive critism but the small amount of a fanbase of any genre will try to put it across as if everyone feels the same way they do and that is where the problem lies. I agree every series has it poor episodes but at the end of it most of what will be remembered are the popular ones and that is what makes us come back for more.

Moffat is right again and also clearly self aware in identifying one of his prime weaknesses. As he says on social media Moffat often gets accused of breaking hearts with his harsh plots but actually he hasn't really ever done this. He needs to. Its about time Doctor Who gave a generation of kids a true 'I am your father'/Neverending Story/death of Bambis mother style event. Something a bit daring but unforgettable. Maybe even something that winds up the Daily Mail. Yes its a family show. But go on! Push the limits a little bit! Its been in danger of feeling too safe. Time for some actual jeopardy to return.

and there were plenty of other such interviews where he has that shifty look about him as if he can't quite look people in the eye with out showing how he truly feels. The sort of look a naughty school boy might give after he's been caught doing something he shouldn't, and whilst I'm not suggesting Matt did something wrong it does appear to be more a case of he wanted to stay on and was told he couldn't for what ever reason. I can't be bothered with this argument any more so I'll leave it there.”

Moffat said in an interview a while a go that Matt decided quite early on to do three series and leave, and that he had persuaded him to stay a little longer. You could assume that the 'little longer' was the Christmas special or maybe the Day of the Doctor as well. It seems to me that it was probably one of the reasons for splitting series 7 over two years, so that Matt could still be the Doctor going into the 50th anniversary episode.

I was also in a room with several thousand over fans and Matt and Moffat. The subject of him leaving came up and Matt said that everyone, including his own mother, wanted him to stay but he had decided to leave.
