Beth is nothing like Cilla. Sure, they look similar (and I hope there is some sort of acknowledgment of this when the characters meet), but Beth is kind-hearted and loving, whereas Cilla is a shrew and selfish to the core.

apparently they have been in talks for quite sometime, since before Jim was announced to be returning and the deal is not signed yet but he seems pretty positive that they'll be returning early next year.
so who could this Popular Character be.”
I reckon its Jim McDonald who will get off on some technicality and be back on Cobbles.

Why would that need to happen. He got 7 years in 2011 so he'll be out later this year after serving half his sentence - and there's not much of this year left.
And Katherine Kelly is doing very nicely away from Corrie, so why would she come back?
Bruce Jones, Vicky Entwhistle, Sherrie Hewson. Denise Welch? Nightmare scenario any one of them, well wouldn't really mind Vicky Entwhistle. For me, I'd like to see Eddie Windass return.
Just had another thought .... Rosie Webster? Oh, please no.
I hope it is Sarah or Rosie. The Webster family unit just doesn't have the same magic without all four of them, and Sarah returning would create huge ructions within the Platt family. Her return could be quite exciting, is she harbouring any grudge against David? What will she make of the new Nick? Will she get on with Kylie? Will she be on Gail's side with Les Dennis? Will she clash with Todd? Will seeing her prompt any attitude change in him? How will Eileen and Jason react? Is it all water under the bridge?
I'll be really disappointed if it's Becky, whose story has been told and I can only imagine they'll be treading old ground with her.
Just been reading Stuart Blackburn's interview, and he is hoping to bring back another character, but won't say who because it isn't a done deal yet. It's still in discussion with the person concerned and no contracts have yet been signed.
As long as it's someone with connections to someone already living on the street and not a random returnee like Curly or Reg, nothing against the characters but they were of their time and would only be brought back for the sake of headlines.

The words pot , kettle , black spring to mind.
If YOU bothered reading other peoples posts you would see that the deal hasn't been finalized yet with the returning character and they should hopefully be on screen in January, Wendi Peters has already returned to filming and will be onscreen in a few weeks which will lead to Fizs temporary exit.
Could it be Toyah? Georgia Taylor said she would return for the right story and Jane Danson is keen for her to return.
Sarah wouldn't return at the moment as Tina O'Brien is pregnant.

Natasha! Would love to see her smug face as she was the one who said Nick only ever wanted Leanne and she was proven right, she'll be laughing now as it was a disaster. Love Natasha forever for getting Gail sacked. Back of the Net
Well, SB and Kevin Kennedy have met up before, so maybe Curly's return is on the cards? Plus the library was being closed down and a new Freschcos built, so perhaps Curly will be the new manager?
Pat Phelan should be brought back and buy the Windass/Armstrong household and take Anna away from Owen.
