Is it normal for a modern LCD TV screen to seem darker near the corners/edges
I've had a Panasonic TX-L32C4B LCD TV since early 2012 now, and it's generally good, but one thing that I've just wanted to question for some time is how on the right side in particular, the picture seems a little darker near the corners... In addition, the screen feels fairly hollow and flimsy, and can easily be pushed in a little via the corners (top-right in particular), meanig that I can get my thumbnail between the screen and the black plastic surrounding it in this area.
Are small issues such as colours seeming darker on one side near the edge and the monitor having some give in it normal? I believe that the dark edge issue has been there since more or less the start, and possibly the other one too, it's just that I've only begun to worry more recently... |

LCD displays have to be backlit to produce the image. It is almost inevitable that there will be some variation in the evenness of that backlighting unless you spend a small fortune on the display panel.
I've seen some really cheap and nasty display panels with very noticeable banding where the backlighting is particularly poor. Though you would hope that a manufacturer with Panasonic's reputation would have better quality control than some of the cheap supermarket own brand stuff churned out for a couple of quid in some Chinese factory. Oh and I would not advise you poke at the screen too much. I have seen PC monitors that users have poked and prodded resulting in image distortion where the screen has been physically damaged because of this abuse!

The older CCFL sets were usually better because they were back-lit, and by a number of tubes spaced across the screen. But even a small number of those were edge-lit, in particular some small Samsung sets, edge-lit with two tubes at the top edge only. |
