When/how did you get into watching soaps?

For me i grew up in a house where mum wasnt interested in soaps and dad had a negative view of them.

When i started secondary school at 11 everyone was talking about eastenders and it seemed like the grown up show everyone would watch so i started watching it in my room. I watched eastenders pretty much all of the time from 2000-2005.

When i left school i lost interest in it and only watched here and there.

In 2010 i moved in with someone for 6 months while we were in the house buying process and she watched all the soaps. I really got into coronation street and started watching that regulary.

Now i watch coronation street every night, although i admit it has lost some of its appeal but i watch it in the hope it will improve. Ive recently gotten into emmerdale since the storyline involving the failed robbery. It seems so easy to follow even though i dont know the characters.

I did try watching eastenders again lately but didnt know who anyone was and couldnt get into it because there wasnt a big storyling going on. Hollyoakes has never appealed to me as it seems more like a teen soap and all of the characters tend to blend into one.

I grew up in a household whereby soaps were always followed firstly introduced by my dad, then picked up by mum and passed down to me and my brother. Now, my dad is more of a casual soap viewer and will only if ever watch Coronation Street or Eastenders if anything.

Whereas, my mum predominantly follows Coronation Street and will occasionally tune into Eastenders. While, my brother only watches Eastenders. I began watching Eastenders in the 90s and got hooked on it for a good while, now I have watched all of the soaps at one stage or another but find that I can only watch three soaps at a time/four max. Also, of course some soaps get better or worse over time.

Now I only watch Emmerdale and Home and Away consistently, but if I like what's going on i'll watch others such as Coronation Street, Hollyoaks or Eastenders, while Neighbours is hit or miss for me.
