Lola, Lauren, Whitney had their moments under previous producers however their only purpose seems to be now to share men around.

They are now written like the cannot function without a bloke.

What happened to the strong young females we used to have, why has their writing changed

The most ludicrous example was a few years ago when there was a strange "sexual rotation system" involving Lauren, Whitney and Lucy, with Joey and Tyler.

Lol. Took the words out of my mouth . Spot on!
Don't forget Peter has also pulled Lauren, Whitney and Lola. If Lucy wasn't his sister, he'd have probably pulled her by now too .

And I agree with you, OP. It feels like their only purpose is to get bedded by the Square's latest "stud". They make the likes of Whitney, Lucy and Lauren look weak-minded and desperate at times. Compare them to some of the other young females in soaps, and you'll see a significant difference.

all they ever seem to do with the teens is cringey stories as love triangles, this is why older viewers can't become interested again, my nan is becoming interested in the show again after many years away, I think, but it's stuff like this that puts off almost any viewers over the age 18... It's silly because they could have much better storylines written for them! Like michelle fowler and sharon watts did! LN and BK shoved the eastend teens down our throats all with uninteresting plots! Dtc has calmed that down a lot but the love triangles stuff is doing my head in! LN's and BK's fault for putting all the stupid couples together in the first place!

Ian and Denise
Lola and peter
Jay and abi ???

Should be Lauren and peter
Lola and jay
Ian and jane!

Hope dtc sorts this out quickly and gives them some decent storylines! Danielle, Jacqueline, and Shona are all great young actress's who aren't given enough meaty material anymore!

It's a shame as the majority of the young characters are now in their 20s and there is no progression for them

Urgh I wrote a gurt long post about potential 'career woman' storylines to get them out of this silly rut and it got deleted before I could post it

Basically, they had the opportunity for Lauren to develop with LB Lettings. I'd have liked to see her persevere and make a go of it. Now she's back to winding the clock down until maternity leave by slutting it out to the latest 'heartthrob'.

Lola should ditch Sneaker Beale and build a future for her and Lexi by turning the occasional nail work she does into a full-fledged business. It opens up storylines for her by interacting with a range of clients.

Exactly! It's absolutely pathetic! They're not even teens anymore but everyone still calls them kids and teens because there's no progression for them! Look at the amount of brilliant work Shona used to get! Now she's like a 14 year old girl around the boy in the year above!

Lola will be so much better without peter! Ben hardys an awful actor! He seems like he's really hard to act with! And he has a really posh accent:/ he's nothing like peter beale! Another mistake made my LN brining him in! Wish dtc could of brought him in later!

We do have to give DTC a bit of a break though. They were going to chuck a bit of character development for the young girls into this weeks scripts but it got cut as Ian had to look shifty and we needed a vital jumble sale scene with Dot.

*sigh* EE has the best cast it's had in years, I just wish they'd bloody use em right!

Fantastic thread. EE is incredibly reductive in this regard.
They've done it with the older females to some extent too.

This is hardly new - it has been this way for several years now. We haven't had any truly strong women that did anything other than sleep around, either play the victim or bitch afterwards and scream like banshees since the days of Mel Healy to my mind.

Ditto to that!

I really hope the producers retcon the character of Kat Moon into an intelligent, career-driven woman. We have seen Kat behaving like a banshee and wearing clothes that really aren't suitable for a woman of her age, for far too long now.

It is high time we embrace the new Kat, who is mild mannered, wears a suit, has her hair pinned up and has a great career as a manager in Debenhams.

They could have focused on whitney's job in a positive way! But the only time it was featured she came across as utterly unlikeable, unprofessional and as childish and bullying as the child who was 'persecuting' her (not excusing Denny - he was horrid but he is the child and she is the adult) and now they're just back to her chasing blokes and then having the abuse cause problems for them if they get too close.

Lauren could have stayed at college, progressed with LB Lettings but no, she's a waitress and again mooning over men.

Lola wants to work and do well for herself (on her terms, not her boyfriends) but nobody will let her!

Abi, the one that has actually done her best to work hard all these years and always had clear goals and ambitions is constantly scuppered by her dreadful family (Anyone else remember Lauren tearing up her revision notes right before her exams last year) and I get the distinct impression we're supposed to think she's being unreasonable in being upset and ashamed that she didn't get into university and is 'forcing' Jay to go away with her.

Lucy had ambition and was successful of course but then that seemed to be a black mark against her. She was ruthless, and a bitch and put money before friends.

Nancy is man centred but Nancy has anything to do full stop.

Whitney's 'Bury me in a Y-Shaped Coffin' routine got old years ago - and Lauren is not much better.

If it was not for her ever expanding knockers and hot ass there would be nothing interesting about her at all.

BIB I was just going to post that. Jane managed to have sex with two men during her short return, Sharon is on her third man in two years and even our young cop couldn't resist Max's charms

I'll give Whitney credit for not bedding a man since Tyler and at least getting her qualifications and getting a decent job.

Whitney spent months mooning over Jonny though - unable to accept a genuine platonic, loving friendship so sex would seem to be a big part of that. She'd been doing very well the few months prior to that though.

TBF it was him that started that....he used her to cover up the fact he was gay. Not nice. Still she should have got the message.

My thoughts too! Its like all they think of is sleeping around? Forget Lee and Whitney for a second, look at Lauren and Dean. They have hardly exchanged more than a couple of words and are already bedding each other :|

It's interesting with Dean - he was supposed to be a player (from his first conversation with Stan) and yet it's taken 4 months (Linda obsession aside) for him to show any interest in a woman vs. Lee being in about 25 episodes and has already gone from Whitney to Lucy and then back to Whitney.

Dean was in the show for 2 years before and he only ever slept with Stacey....and a prostitute in his last episode.

In a bid to help female emancipation and to save these young women from being a mere plaything for these virile young men I'm prepared to sacrifice myself by taking their place. It wasn't an easy choice to make.

Not to mention the utter hatchet job they did on Kat. Why do they do this? I don't think there's been any great drama in any of those stories and it speaks volumes for the paucity of writing in EE that on her return Sharon has had more weddings in 2 years than her first 20 years in the show!

I agree that I like what they have done with Whitney - her character development has been brilliant.
