Last year Lorraine Newman was criticized and right so for her destruction of soap icon Sharon Watts. Well DTC is no better. While Ian has always been a difficult character to like the current story of him wanting to send an old man into a care home just to keep his dirty skank secret is a new low even for him.

Any sympathy I had for him over Lucy's murder is now gone and I suspect many other viewers feel the same way. So if we don't feel sorry for the characters connected why should we even care who killed her?

Unless Ian is redeemed and fast this story will prove to be a waste of time and effort.

They writers are ****ing idiots, best character development for Ian in ages and they have him sleep with a ****ing hooker. Know why? Because they want to shift the attention off of Denise having sucked face with a boy twenty years younger than herself and put it onto Ian so of course, Denise can be 'disgusted' at Ian when the big reveal happens and any mention of her own cheating will cease to be. Not to mention the fact that she doesn't want to be with him anyway.

Any chance you got this off that mans video? na you're right though, and I'm glad someone agrees, it's an absolutely pathetic story, EE has gone to the dogs this summer it's an utter joke, they think were stupid, er hellooo? Going on like we haven't seen stella Crawford jump of a building on her wedding day, and like we haven't seen phil mitchell on crack, and burn down the vic, and stacey slater jump on coffins, it's a joke! no better than LN, let's hope autumns better!

The writers are DUMB! I miss the good old writers and I don't know where they are, I just hope these current ones have got some brilliant stuff coming up! my 7 year old sister writes better stories than the people of elstree! Let's hope there's a jane and ian reunion out of all this! Adam and Laurie work brilliantly together!

This is nothing new for Ian. He's the man who lied about his daughter having cancer to get Mel to marry him. The man who slept with Janine and Glenda when he was married...he paid them both and then treated them like sh!t. He chose the slapper Mandy over his daughter, throwing her out of the house and leaving her homeless.

This is nothing to do with making Denise look good. It's about how people don't turn into saints the minute they're hit with such a tragedy. Ian was always a weasel is still a weasel.

As for Jane....she had every good reason to leave him, he treated her like an unpaid servant and even tried to cheat her out of anything she was entitled to when they divorced.

I think it's perfectly normal what he's doing. Why would he want to lumber himself with a stroke victim he's not even related to?

It's not even like Denise is actually related to Patrick, too

She adopted him legally. It's not as if Ian could be bothered with him....without Lucy to do all the school runs he was a bit stuck.

Another pointless kid, whereby it's much easier to write them out when they become and inconvenience.

I am sorry but this post is foolish. The destruction of Sharon by Lorraine Newman was because Sharon's character was transformed into a sidewoman. She was given shit storylines, had that ridiculous thing with Jack and Phil and was completely out of character. It's taken almost 2 years to bring back Sharon. As for Ian, this is not the destruction of his character - this is Ian. Ian is a tragic character because he is essentially a good man but makes mistakes and ends up making things even worse in order to try and correct these mistakes. He's been like that for over 20 years - this is Ian at his best!

I do agree with Val and Starry Rune, it's all entirely in character for Ian. The weaselly self serving lies and spiraling desperation to keep a woman goes back all the way to Mel. Also he wasn't averse to buying the Vic from Chrissie behind his best friend's back all those years ago.
Don't remember the stealing from Pauline?

Isn't that the whole point of Ian though? He's the weasel we sympathise with as his weaselling always backfires. Edit - and with Zsa Zsa above but maybe not so bluntly!

I agree it's in character but my sympathy has run out. Stuff him and stuff his bitch of a daughter and prat of a son. The Beales have become more morally depraved than the Brannings.

Ian may have done some questionable things over the years but you cannot blame him for the breakdown of his and Jane's marriage. Jane behaved appallingly and far worse than Ian in 2010 during her personality transplant. It all started when Lucy fell pregnant and Jane manipulated her into keeping the baby despite the fact Lucy clearly wasn't ready. Jane planned to adopt the baby and Ian quite rightly didn't want to put his daughter through such an ordeal so took her for an abortion. The whole twisted arrangement was born from Janes selfish desire to have a child of her own. When Jane learned about the abortion she planned to leave Ian and fleece him out of all of his money, the money he had earned from building his business up and also with 3 children to support. It was at this time that she began an affair with Masood, not the first time she had cheated on Ian either. Ian may then have slept with Glenda but it was only in response to Jane's cheating because he felt hurt and betrayed. Ian might not have behaved perfectly but Jane was by far the more vindictive of the two at this time.

Oh I didn't think much of Jane either. There were faults on both sides TBF.

To be fair to Jane Ian's 'son' had shot her a couple of years prior meaning that she couldn't have children of her own. That does tend to drive a woman a little bit loopy. Just ask Ronnie!

Or she married the boss and became part of the family business.

She gleefully skipped out of Walford the first time to live hundreds of miles away. Any responsibility of being his legal parent didn't bother her then.

Ronnie is a misunderstood angel. I say give all the children of Walford to her.

Jane is terrible. I don't understand why people see her as this angelic motherly type figure. She's a horrible mother to Bobby and a dreadful wife/partner. She's smug, selfish, obnoxious, arrogant, greedy and a liar. She and Ian deserve each other not because they deserve happinesss but because they deserve to make each other miserable for the rest of their lives

Just Ian being Ian,

I liked his one day friendship with Carol, hope that comes back!
Is Phil going to bully him again one day? Yes?

then how the heck has Walford changed forever?
