I have never watched eastenders since 1987 because I got fed up of all the sceaming and shouting.
Emmerdale and Corrie are my fave Soaps, but just of late i am afraid that Emmerdale has become a screaming and shouting match.
Emmerdale is just not what it used to be.
Ok, to some of you I am just moaning and groaning, but oh dear, please can we have a bit more of something othen than all the violence and upset of late.
Also, Moria is just a moaning wingeing character now. She is willing for Arron to suffer for her son again and again.

That could have been me saying that, Popsiemia. Some people like cops 'n robbers, fine, but it was dishonest to steal our Emmerdale and change it to that. I look back in occasionally, hoping that our Emmerdale has come back, but no luck, it is still wall to wall thieves, liars, sex maniacs and gratuitous violence. I wish we could have a new producer.

Seconded, thirded and tenthed!!! One with a sense of humour.
This is the worst one yet. Has she ever watched an ep? What programme does she think she's on?
This is the proof of 'be careful' what you wish for' when people complained about Blackburn.

At least they make an effort to keep their viewers entertained, unlike EastEnders who give us like one shock every month, expecting us to keep watching... Agree with it though, emmerdales nothing like it used to be, it used to be gripping, but it's only ever good whenever they have a good couple of episodes now... Shame really!

It's a lot better under Kate Oates than it was under Blackburn.

It also has always had Cops and Robbers type stuff in it, Cain and Charity mostly being at the centre of it. I presume Emmerdale Farm didn't but you know, things change.

Emmerdale has always had dramatic stories and cops and robbers since becoming more racier in 1994. I do agree that as of late it is becoming Gritty in the stories it is telling but this doesn't stop me and my family tuning in. My mum and nan have watched since 1972 and they think Emmerdale is great at the moment and understand how much things have to change in order to keep up with the modern trends.

My only criticism would be to give it more a community feel and a more rural feel. I would like to see the whole village getting involved in things. I would also like the producers to make more use of their outside areas.

I would like to see a change of hands up the top. Maybe bring Bill Lyons in as producer.

Its a load of tosh , last night Marlon burning the money, wouldn't happen in real life and BTW was this not already done in ED some years ago when Debbie burned all Cains money from the kidnapping.

Load of crap ....lifes to short watch something better

Also, Corrie has also descended into a pile of absolute bile and shite

Found this strange too why didn't they just give the money to charity not Charity Macey especially after Donna's cancer storyline. Then young Jacob threw all of Leyla's money in the river not too long ago. What is it with Emmerdale and money

Me too JoP. Compared to the other soaps it's my only remaining safe haven of soap entertainment.

It was, and Marlon already had a wife killed off. She's badly re-hashing old storylines and bringing back people she thinks will improve her ratings.
While I've stopped watching Corrie since SB took over, I'd rather have him back at Emmerdale than this blinkered ratings chaser.
I expect a plane crash any day now.

Bit harsh, you're only criticising a soap!

Me too, in spite of criticising characters that I dislike.

If I want to watch a safe, cosy show, I'll tune in to something like a repeat of "Heartbeat"

It annoys me enormously BUT on the whole I enjoy it because if I didn't I'd stop watching.
That said, I'm sorta not watching at the moment but that's cos its Mr Tickle centric at the moment

They could all round up Mr Tickle and Darth Barton and run them outta town
or string 'em up

Dealers choice

I keep saying this but I find it utterly bizarre how some people wish for the return of Blackburn to what we are getting currently. What is it that was so appealing? What was he doing better? All I can see since he went is an improvement in pace, more balance between drama and humour, more lighthearted scenes and better character interaction. Oates' time on the show hasn't been perfect but it's a drastic improvement on her predecessor and I'd love to hear what those saying otherwise thought the positives were enough to want him back.

As for the shouting, "cops 'n' robbers", thieves, liars, sex maniacs and violence that goes on, it's nothing new really. You'd probably have to rewind back a long way to find it not occurring so much. Debbie spent most of 2012 and 2013 screaming, Chas spent most of 2011 doing mostly the same and I doubt there's an episode in existence from around 2004 where Lisa appeared without a raised voice. Violence is nothing new to the show, there's always been somebody around in the last decade Aaron, Cain, Scott etc. who'd use violence more often than they should. And I wouldn't necessarily describe anyone in the show as a "sex maniac" but there has been a shift in the focus on sex particularly since the 2000s hit and it seems to be expected of a soap nowadays. A lot of these things that people are talking about are nothing to do with the new producer and date back to changes made well over a decade ago.

The humor is still there as far as I can see too. People were complaining just weeks ago that there was too much slapstick in the show with Bernice/Katie and Kerry/Dan and not enough drama, so it seems absurd that people are saying that the humor has disappeared - it's clearly still there just not to your taste. There's also a lot of one liners still in the show. Both of these things seemed incredibly rare under the last producer as everyone appeared to be walking around with the weight of the world on them.

In relation to repeated storylines, that's unfortunately down to having too many episodes a week. The show is approaching 7000 episodes, it's to be expected that storylines are going to be repeated but as long as different characters are at the forefront, or it's used for character development - where's the harm? I like seeing how the characters react to different situations though rather than being gripped by an intriguing story, so it could just be down to opinion on that one.

A lot of the issues that people seem to be making appear to have first appeared well before the current producer or the one before that, it's all a result of Emmerdale changing to match current times and no change of producer will stop that as far as I can see as they will just pick up where this one left off. You'd have to rewind back to well over a decade ago to change it.

I agree with you OP and have to say this particular storyline has IMO gone the wrong way, when Donna came back I wasn't looking forward to her death but I thought Emmerdale could rise to the challenge and possibly do it even better than Corrie, but no we had cops and robbers cash being stolen and burned, yelling and once again Moira being a complete horror wanting her child saved above all others.

I have watched since 1972 and I realise it may have had to move on a bit but it's almost Eastenders in the Dales now. I gave up eastenders when that got too shouty, corrie when that became too shouty, I really loved Emmerdale I don't want to lose that too !

I love Emmerdale.

Even the unwanted return of Aaron hasn't ruined it for me. I honestly don't get the negativity at all. Specially at the end of such a cracking summer.

Yes, high drama happens. But so does Moira and Cain getting married in a barn, Edna pinning out her washing, Bob serving up tea and coffee to all and sundry, Victoria serving up chips in the pub, Finn cooking breakfasts in the B&B, and Sean getting his GCSEs. There's a great balance between action and normal(ish) life, and the characters are believable and (mostly) likable. I don't watch any of the other soaps now, but Emmy just has this little space of its own and I think it does a great job.

It most certainly is although I thought Stuart Blackburn was Ok in. Emmerdale but he is rubbish in Corrie!

ED is the only watchable soap at the moment. It might have some way to go to be where i personally want it to be but i do think there is now light at the end of the tunnel. Now the Donna story is over it does need to cut back on the violence and stop turning ever women into a loose one. For really crap soaps at the moment try tuning in to the Carter show on BBC1 or the crime against tv that is currently CS.

The OP has to be an non-ED fan trying to stir it.

There is nothing wrong with the show. It has improved since Blackburn - there are more stories on ED than CS that I am looking forward to.

In ED, it's nice that the Donna cancer/Aaron return story has involved half of the village. It gives various characters the chance to 'shine'.

Even James has become bearable this week for me.
