But dramatically calling someone's acting 'horrendous' clearly implies a lack of enjoyment.
Very few soap actors need cause the likes of Olivia Coleman, Sheridan Smith or Sarah Lancashire to lose any sleep, but that doesn't alter the fact that people like Anne Kirkbride, Sally Dynevor, Helen Worth etc have created brilliant, and yes
hugely popular characters in Deirdre, Sally, Gail etc.
