Being a popular character in a soap doesn't mean the actor is good. There's plenty of popular characters played by rubbish or extremely limited actors. In CS alone there's Gail, Sally, Rita to name just a few. Ross Kemp's Grant was hugely popular in EE but he's an extremely limited actor. Many more i could name.

But dramatically calling someone's acting 'horrendous' clearly implies a lack of enjoyment.
Very few soap actors need cause the likes of Olivia Coleman, Sheridan Smith or Sarah Lancashire to lose any sleep, but that doesn't alter the fact that people like Anne Kirkbride, Sally Dynevor, Helen Worth etc have created brilliant, and yes hugely popular characters in Deirdre, Sally, Gail etc.

I agree with you.
Dev is quute a creation but the acting is highly questionable at times. Detective Dev was just downright hilariously bad.
Deirdre, Sallie and Tim are the only ones making the show bearable at the minute! I love when Deidre does comedy she does it well and it always makes me crack a smile with some of her lines.
Sally Dynevor has always been excellent IMO - but in Corrie's 50th live episode when she found out about Molvin, she shone.

Blanche would be turning in her grave. She may be her daughter but Deirdre has not inherited her comedy genius

I agree. Whilst watching her I was pontificating if she used to be a good actor before but is just dire at the comedy role she's been given. I don't remember having a problem with her acting prior so I think she's either regressed with age or just can't do comedy.
