Has emmerdale become the old EastEnders?

There's no doubt emmerdale has been very dark and gritty just lately, the drama is brilliant and like something you'd see from a film! And the cast has so many dark characters, and bitches that you wouldn't want to cross! It has some brilliant plots, and the cast are being some great things to do, and cast members are being linked all together, it's working really well, and the acting is outstanding, there's also been some good returns! And the Cameron stuff was brilliant! Has emmerdale become like EastEnders in the 2000-2002 period?

It's definitely having more gritty storylines. The storyline with Finn's attack and not knowing whether he was raped and the Donna/Ross/Marlon/Laurel/Adam/Aaron storyline has been brilliant - full of drama and tragedy.

It's not like EE, but it's definitely changing.

Not really, but the show does currently have some similarities. I think Emmerdale has seen better times, but each to each to their own.

Even at Emmerdale's most gritty and deep it will never reach the depressing lows of EastEnders. Some episodes of EE in the past have made question life.

Some EE episodes this week have had that same effect.

The episode where Batley died is the saddest thing I have ever seen on TV.

I don't think about soaps too deeply.
I watch when i can, enjoy or dislike an episode and then forget about it until the next time i watch.

in answer to your question no. emmerdale has moved away from it being dallas in wellies and there is no doubt it is gritty and more depressing than eastenders (not a dig, emmerdale is top notch) but there is still a big difference between the two shows. i would say there is a better balance of light and shade in eastenders.

The past 4 and a half years of Emmerdale (which is the time I have watched it) have been brilliant and I haven't been inclined to switch off once. It has it's ups and downs but yes it has been gritty and with a lot of heavy drama but lately the balance of light and dark has been really good.

Right now, I am very impressed with the direction is heading in, though I don't know that I would compare it to Eastenders.

For me, Emmerdale has been a shadow of itself since 2008. Anita Turner set the rot in as she was out of her depth and Stuart Blackburn then butchered it. Terry and Viv's death was an insult to every single viewer. For that I always view Emmerdale as two different soaps. Early 90s to mid 00s and then 2008 to now. Pre 2008 quality was much better. The show is really missing its signature power families such as the Tates/Kings. The Macey's never suited Home Farm. Even the Wyldes were better. It has lost its heart.

no emmerdale wins the crown hands down. in many circles emmerdale has been renamed 'the village of the damned.' i think it lives upto its name.
