Is 'The Archers' the only British radio soap opera? Have there been others in the past and are there any still on air?

I believe The Archers is currently Britain's only national radio soap opera still on air, but I think there might be some local radio soap operas around.

The Archers' spin-off, Ambridge Extra, ran for five series on Radio 4 Extra, before it was rested. Other British radio soaps include; Front Line Family, Mrs Dale's Diary, Silver Street, Waggoner's Walk and Westway.

i can just about remember waggoners' walk, i think it was on radio 2 and racer than the archers. shame it got axed.

Mrs Dale's Diary was rebranded as The Dales in 1963. Jessie Matthews was cast as Mrs Dale, which Laurence Olivier called "the worst piece of miscasting in the history of the profession".

The sacking of Ellis Powell from the role was said to have inspired the play The Killing of Sister George.

I use to enjoy it. It was also broadcast on my local BBC station at the time(Radio Humberside) and I recall the presenter saying 'it's now time for us to make our wear way down Waggoners Walk'.
