eastenders has come out of a long rough patch to put it politely. the damage done by kirkwood and newman was immense. praise the lord for treadwell collins. if anyone can turn it around its dominic and he is doing just that.

if eastenders was a patient it has come through a traumatic accident, being in intensive care, moved to the high dependency unit and is now doing well in ward 6 and ready to be discharged.

eastenders isn't perfect by any means, but it is so watchable again and it is nice to care and engage with the characters. the writing has improved, love daran littles scripts. if you compare eastenders a year ago under lorriane and compare it now under dominic, we have our answer.

i am sure many will come on here and rubbish this, i am sure the eastenders hate'rs are rubbing their hands, licking their rubber lips and sharpening their claws.

6.5 (rounded up to 7) Its the best it's been since 2010. There is still a way to go and there have been some clangers dropped in writing/pacing but all the ingredients are in place for a very good 6 months. Hopefully they pull it off.

7. There are some very interesting storylines on going atm, such as Who Killed Lucy? and the Charlie Cotton mystery. My problem isn't with the storylines themselves, it's the pacing. We have a week of one story, then that falls back into oblivion for two weeks, and then we have a week of that story again. It would be better if they all ran alongside each other.

The love pentagon between Abi/Jay/Lola/Peter/Lauren/Dean is very boring and I could do without it. One of these days Jay and Lola are going to get together and Peter and Lauren are going to get together, so I don't see why they need to drag the inevitable out.

Then there's Stacey's fabulous character development. She's accepted responsibility for killing Archie and wants to serve her time for what she's done, yet it's almost as if she's being forced to appeal because of the way Lily is being cared for. It's a really clever plot by DTC, and it's the best way he could have had Stacey return. If she hadn't confessed, she would have been very unpopular with viewers and would have been known as Stacey the killer, but now she's confessed it makes her much more likeable.

Must admit I prefer this version of Stacey to the 2010 one.

A solid 7, it's still not particularly brilliant

ITA, iMatt. I don't feel the show is any better than a 7. It's not awesome, but the ingredients are there - they're just not being baked right.

Oh, that analogy sounds so lame!

A month or two ago i would have voted 7 or an 8 but I've found the last few weeks pretty boring in comparison to the last 6 months.

6 right now but we've had plenty of 7s and 8s this year with the odd 9. Mind you they've been a couple of 3s recently.

No where near as bad as BK and LN! Better atmosphere, better characters, more stuff to look forward to, it had got a lot better, I'd give dtc a 6/7 and would have gave him an 8/9 December - May because the quality was outstanding, and there was lots going on, but not too much change, over the summer it's kind of fell salt again and gone off course, and we've had some really dull, weird, and tedious stuff, this is what I would do...

1) improve the quality - night shoots, scenes in the cafe at night, darkness, gloom, special make up effects, try to avoids filming in hot/nice weather... This will improve the quality and make things darker...

2) calm down the carters and use your key characters more to win popularity back THEN use the carters (ronnie, roxy, Sonia, stacey, kat and alfie, phil etc...)

3) don't rush or drop storylines, have a clear understanding of them, and give them good structure!

4) do not try and make EE young, even hollyoaks has stopped trying to be young now... EE should be a show for ALL generations, you can not target a flagship show at a younger audience you just can't, tony holland and Julia smith didn't create EE to be aimed at kids... (The teens, exam stuff, 20 year olds with the crushes, bed hopping, hunky actors has to stop, which it has a lot since dtc arrived but it's still there)

But yes, they are slowly getting there, the only problem they have I'd their numbers, they're quite low, but all the soaps are, so it's hard to tell wether EE are doing bad or good, however their only 500k behind corrie so either the soaps are doing good and people just don't like soaps anymore, or they're doing bad and no one cba to watch them... I have a lot of faith in dtc, I will judge him on the shore after the 30th, but I'll give him chances to redeem himself up until then! It does sound like we have an amazing autumn on the cards, I hope it's lasts this time though!

5/10. It's watchable and certainly a big improvement on the 2010-2013 shitfest, but none of the current storylines are gripping me...the only one close to doing so is the intrigue surrounding Charlie and Nick, but it's been so badly paced that I'm starting to lose interest. I'm also now beyond caring who killed Lucy.

Needs to be less Carter focus too. I like them, but I'm at risk of starting to tire of them.

8, it will be only be a 10 if/when Nancy get's her own storyline (that doesn't involve bloody Dexter, or a love triangle) thanking you.

I would say it's between 5-7, some storylines are good but others are kind of a let down.

Its improving but it has a while to go before its back to where is used to be, the best thing in it are the Carters and Cottons currently.

I would give it around 8, it was 8.5 reaching 9 even 9.5 at rare points during the winter however currently the show's pace has slowed a little and the scenes and their energy are not as electric as they were earlier in the year. There is a very good reason for this-The Summer. So often the show slows around this time as audience dips understandably and actors are away on their own holidays etc.
It feels as if DTC came in and exploded the show during the winter that gave it energy to run and run until about May. It now seems that whilst there is still plenty going on and plenty of quality (Far from the BK/LN eras) the show has taken a deep breath, let the dust settle slightly so DTC and co. could analyse the state of play and how to progress from here before gearing up for Autumn and Winter onto the anniversary. Which, by the way, sound fantastic.

I'd give it an 8

I gave it a 7. Eastenders has significantly improved since the BK and LN era but it still isn't perfect and still has a long way to go. DTC is casting better actors and giving underused actors a chance to shine (e.g Patrick).

I'm liking the surprise returns. Not only do they make the show more unpredictable, they make sense and they're plausable. Such as Anthony coming to see Patrick due to his stroke or Honey returning for a few episodes.

Lucy's death and whodunnit storyline is one of the most interesting whodunnit's as little is known about it and I genuinely have no idea of who killed Lucy. There are lots of developments and curveballs.

However some storylines are dumb such as the Mick curb crawling storyline. It's unrealistic and frustrating to watch. I have faith that DTC will eventually restore EE to its former glory but it is a matter of when!

8 for me. In comparison to last year, it's 562! However, I think it's going to get even better as we move into Autumn and then we'll see an explosive festive season.

6/10 - overall it's slightly above average. The Ian/Rainie business has been the focus of the Lucy arc for far too long, never mind the fact it's the exact same shifty Ian plot strand he had during 'who killed Archie?'. I thought the Mick twist whilst frustrating was quite an interesting direction to go in but again, Lucy died four months ago and the last two months have had this particular strand of the story and not much else. Whilst elsewhere, Charlie the caretaker.... I could live with this better if it hadn't took five flippin' months to get to this point. Especially when we all knew full bloody well ions ago that Nick wasn't dead and Charlie wasn't a copper.

Basically I guess I'd agree pacing is the big problem. I'm all for long story arcs but ideally stuff would actually happen throughout rather than weeks/months of nothing before the next major development. Same problem plagued the Santer era.
