Seeing the threat about forgotten songs you love has made me think of songs that are played on the radio and you instantly remember the film they are featured in!.... there are two that take me back straight away to the film

the first one is........... Brown eyed girl by Van Morison and I instantly see Julia Roberts dancing with her new boyfriend in. Sleeping with the enemy!......... Great film...........

the second is............ Teenage wedding by Chuck Berry in the iconic film .. Pulp fiction.....and John Travolta and Uma Therman are dancing the Twist........

Does anyone else get taken back like this?........

Michael Andrews Featuring Gary Jules ‎- Mad World [Donnie Darko] http://youtu.be/GDt0bNNnWiE

On a side note, are "songs from movies" a thing nowadays ?
Remember when a song would be part of a movies soundtrack and dominate the charts (Bryan Adams, Celine Dion, Aerosmith for example) - does that still happen and I'm just out of touch?

Not as much

The only one i can recall of recent time would be Adele's Skyfall. But like Bryan Addams, Celine Dion and Aerosmith's songs, that song was written especially for the film. It wasn't like an existing song that was included in the film like ones people had already listed.

The most recent one would probably be Let It Go by Idina Menzel. Although given that it's from a Disney Musical, I don't know whether that counts.

The current trend seems to be to take a collection of songs and write the movie or show around them........Mamma Mia, The Queen thing, Walking on Sunshine

Take That's Rule the World (from Stardust) is another recent-ish example. That song was in the charts for ages

Still a thing, just more subtle.

Example:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dX3k_QDnzHE

Reading the comments, people sought out the song after hearing it in 22 Jump Street or Warm Bodies.

Back on topic:

Can't hear that song without envisioning Mr Blonde about to cut off a cop's ear.

Nellie The Elephant, Come Up And See Me, Need Your Love So Bad and Dancing Queen will forever remind me of the film Dancing Queen, starring Rik Mayall and Helena Bonham-Carter.
