If its any consolation you are not the first player to ever achieve this. But no-one has ever predicted all 70 matches from the first 7 weeks and failed to get a max

The all-time record for the most predictions at the start of a season without an exact jointly belongs to Hibs-kid-2007 and lakes, who failed to get an exact in the first 6 weeks, but managed to get the Saturday evening kick-off spot on (Blackburn 0-2 Man United) - that was the 64th match of the 2008-09 season.

12 players failed to get a max in the first 4 weeks of a season
8 players failed to get a max in the first 5 weeks of a season

This was the 50th Group Stage Match Day since the competition started and only 5 of the previous 49 have had a lower top score than Realale's 26. Not to take anything away from RA in saying that of course, as consistency proved the key to leading the way. That is to say, Realale scored 10/16 with two maxes via Apoel Nicosia 1 Ajax 1 and BATE Borisov 2 Athletic Bilbao 1. Only one player exceeded 10/16 and that was Minky Joe with 11/16, these were the only two to register double figure correct results.

We have still only ever had one player score points in all 8 matches on one evening in the group stage, but MinkyJoe did become the 54th player to score in 7 out of 8 last night.

Elsewhere, Sattrega and Party Animal notched up the most maxes, three, with two regulation five pointers and an ubermax apiece.

So after matchday 2 we have a new leader, Minky Joe ascending a place to take top spot. To illustrate how tough this campaign is proving, Minky's total of 51 is the lowest total required to lead after the first 2 Match Days in the history of the competition. (Last year tso had 84 points at this stage, and a total of 51 would have only been good enough for 25th place in the overall table).
Minky also comfortably leads the way in having scored in the most matches this season so far with 21 (5 fewer than Beth's record at this stage last season).

• Chelsea’s win in Lisbon produced the most point collectively of matchday 2, 89.
• It also generated the most maxes, 9.
• The most frequently correctly predicted result was Real’s away win over Ludogorets Razgrad, as all 39 players forecast this.
• Finally, the pinch-your-nose-and-hold-at-arms-length award went to Schalke, as their failure to beat Maribor saw the slenderest of returns, a meagre 4 points.

Congratulations to Benny Johns & Tony P upon prevailing in a high scoring week – 7 home wins being partly responsible. Benny’s 6/10 was hugely bolstered with a weeek’s equal best four maxes* (Man City, Chelsea, Man Utd, West Ham), whilst Tony had the second joint best correct result return with dean michael, 8/10. (Lauro had 9/10 with *4 maxes, however as he blanket bombed eight 2-0 picks they were reduced to 2 point returns).

Well played to Apple Crumble who regains top spot for the second time this season (was last top post week 2), whilst there are significant moves for Benny and Dimble B into the top ten.

Spirit of Sussex has bagged the most maxes, 10 regulation and one uber making 11 in total, and Lauro has by far the most correct results predicted, 43 out of 70.

The stats made very healthy reading this week as 6 out of 10 fixtures reached treble figures and four of those six topping 150.

Man City winning at Villa Park achieved the most right, 65/69 players tipping an away, and the most point overall, 163.

This pipped West Ham by a point, which did have the joint highest maxing number of the week, 18, alongside Man Utd’s 2-1 win.

Whiffer of the week came courtesy of Leicester’s late concession at home to Burnley, resulting in only six players picking up points.

There were three CP’s this week:

Aston Villa 0-2 Man City: 11 players benefited to the max by the second goal to pick up a +3 pat, whereas there were 2 unlucky 0-1 predictors who suffered the opposite, -3.

Hull 2-0 Palace: This time 9 players saw their two points turned into 5 by the late second goal, again collecting a +3 pat. Equally there were 9 players who went 1-0 to Hull, unfortunately netting the -3.

Leicester 2-2Burnley: Nobody predicted a 2-2 draw however 6 players did pick a different draw, hence they picked up a +2 pat. The killer was if you tipped 2-1 as this incurred a -5; sadly such a fate befell 11 players.

Unluckiest players of the week were twice former champ Sattrega and Clarky who saw maxes go up in smoke in both the latter fixtures.

Burnley’s last gasp equaliser was significant at the top of the table too as Cheeks was one of the 2-1 tippers who thus collected a -5. This opened the door for Chris MacL, whose +2 in the same fixture saw him assume pole position as we head into the international break.

Congratulations to Davethecue on top scoring matchday two (i.e the games played Thursday to Saturday only) with a banging 55, the only player to break 50 this round.

Dave had the best max return, six standards and an uber, courtesy of Lithuania, Northern Ireland, Romania / Hungary, Scotland, Sweden / Russia, the Czech Republic and Belgium respectively.

Terrence Chant & Yakutz predicted the most correct results, 17/26.

On the whole scores were a bit down from matchday 1 but almost half of the players (16 out of 34) did manage to improve on their opening round total.

The highest scorer – and only fixture to reach three figures – was...England! Last round incidentally we had 4 games that beat the 100. This match was one of six clean sweeps where everybody scored something.

The biggest maxer was the 1-1 draw between Sweden and Russia producing 11 five pointers.

Finally, Germany and Spain stank the joint out as the only two ties where duck eggs were laid.

Very well played to Yakutz whom emerged the top scorer from match day three, that is, the games played on Sunday, Monday and last night. Yak beasted the maxes nailing three five pointers (Bos. / Belg., England and Wales) and three ubers (Switzerland, Spain and Croatia).

Five players tied on most correct predictions, 17/25 (accounting for the abandonment). Bearing this in mind spare a thought for fatsi who still finished a modest 22nd despite being one of the five competitors in question.

Week 8 honours went to MattHartLane, who I’m sure will be chuffed to have notched up a PB of 26 in the process. Matt recorded 8/10 with two ubers – the Baggies draw last night and Man City’s 4-1 win. Props to Dim B and Uls2000 on recording Sb’s (season’s best personal scors) and Tokyo on breaking 20.

As you can see, 5 players scored 8/10, Arsenal and Man Utd being the cheif culprits from achieving a coveted 10/10 and the ten point bonus that accompanies it. No player nailed more than two maxes this week.

A joint fourth best score of the week saw Apple Crumble not only maintain top spot but also double his lead...from one point to two. Big news is that Dimble Burbleby’s indefatigable efforts in this comp have been rewarded with a jump from 8th to 2nd, courtesy of the his second consecutive 20+ score.

Elswehere, Tokyo returns to the top 10 for the first time since week 3, as does Darren for the first time since week one, whilst TC and Matt’s leaps catch the eye.

The significance of nailing maxes is exemplified by viewing the stats of The Benster, who has 41 correct predictions, one more than Dim in second place in fact, yet is as low as 59th in the table. Decent enough tipping not getting the reward it deserves really.

None of this weeks matches had double-figure exacts - the second time this season we have collectively failed to achieve this milestone (in the previous two and a bit seasons we had only had one week where we had failed to reach 10 exacts in any match).

However, this week was also only the 10th time ever where we have uber-maxed 2 or more fixtures featuring at least 5 goals.

Quite an active week in cowpat corner as three games came under scrutiny:

Arsenal 2-2 Hull: As mentioned above spindiddly went for a Desmond’s here and gained a lovely fat +7 into the bargain. Nobody went 2-1 Hull to snaffle a stinker.

Palace 1-2 Chelsea: One way or another, this was the most toxic CP of the round as 7 players gained a max (+3) through Palace’s late consolation, but a massive 28 players incurred a -3 through selecting 0-2.

QPR 2-3 Liverpool: As Dim explained on Sunday, whenever there is more than one goal post 87 mins, it is only the last one that counts for cowpat purposes, i.e Liverpool’s third. Remarkably, Renegade Master pocketed the ubermax and hence a +7 cowpat, whilst Cissy Fairfax went from ecstasy to agony in a matter of seconds as his 2-2 pred got wiped out at the death (-7 pat).

All of which has resulted in a new leader, dyer+24 nosing in front of the field. At this stage last season the leader was on +17 and the bottom placed player on -18, a difference of 35 points. This year you can see that is slightly less as 29 points separate top from bottom. The season before it was as much as 41 points.

Being third before this matchday 3 and knocking in the second best score of the round were the ideal ingredients for Sattrega to climb two places to top spot. Elsehere there were big moves for Bandit and Charlie, whilst Terrence Chant was the weeks highest climber.
