Only three players scaled 20 in week 9, Eugene, Bandit and the pick of the crop, Ricky. Ricky scored 6/10 with three maxes / ubers (Arsenal, Swansea and Everton). Real Ale replicated this, but with only 4/10.

7/10 was the most anyone got right, a feat shared by Eugene and Chris MacL.

Props to Dyer on a personal best, and tso, Taurus and Bandit on their season’s best scores.

Finally, Lauro may have the most correct results over the season, but bombed out spectacularly this round with just 1/10.

Apple Crumble had to call on one of his ‘biggies in the bank’, a 14 from week 7, to hold off the challenge of my esteemed co-host Dimble Burbleby who remains second. As week 9 top scorer, Ricky leaps up to 6th, the first time he’s entered the top ten this season.

With a quarter of the season more or less gone, you may be wondering: can I still win this? Well, as a reference point, here’s how the eventual winner stacked up at this stage in the last few seasons:

2014: Charlie Parr 17th, 18 points off the lead
2013: Charlie Parr 2nd, 4 points off the lead
2012: Sattrega 26th, 24 points off the lead
2011: Sattrega 1st, no points off the lead

Following the pattern of ‘near the top, not near the top’ in recent seasons maybe again someone currently mid-table-ish will eventually come with a run to take the crown! Certainly judging by what happened three years ago, you could be as low as about 40th and still do the biz. So don’t give up hope if you’ve had a patchy start to the campaign.

Whopper of the week was Swansea’s 2-0 triumph over Leicester, generating the most points and maxes. The total of 173 was the fourth highest of the season.

The most successful result in terms of correct predictions was high-flying Southampton’s home win over Stoke, as 57/66 players bagged at least two points.

Reeker of the round was West Ham defeating Man City – precisely none of us saw that coming.

There were three cowpats games this week:

Sunderland 0-2 Arsenal: 9 players gained a max here and hence a +3 cowpat, compared to 6 players who lost one with their 0-1 preds (-3 cowpat)

WBA 2-2 Palace: 5 players picked up an uberpat of +7 with the Baggies last gasp pen. No-one had tipped an away so nobody suffered negatively.

Man Utd 1-1 Chelsea: 9 players were grateful for the injury time equaliser at Old Trafford as their 1-1 picks were rewarded with a +5 pat. 4 players were gutted to register a -5 pat courtesy of their 0-1 Chelsea predictions.

Consequently there were some pretty hefty pats including three +9-ers, one of which belonged to Dyer as he extends his lead at the top to +6.

Even considering my current position, I certainly haven't given up all hope of registering a hatrick of titles.

If I can get this to somewhere close to 50% over the next 3 quarters, that could be an additional 10-12 points per quarter.
0 ubers: I might get one before the year end!

That kind of performance is not beyond the realms of possibility. So 32 points behind at the minute, whilst not ideal, is not a disaster!

As TC says anyone in the top 40 can still win, it might even be from the Top 50

The cowpats of week 10 were:

Arsenal 3-0 Burnley: A whopping 25 players benefited +3 from the late third goal, compared to 12 who incurred a -3 with their 2-0 picks.

Aston Villa 1-2 Spurs: 11 players nailed a +5 with Spurs 89th minute decisive goal, whereas 14 of us picked up an unwelcome -5 due to selecting a 1-1 draw.

Palace 1-3 Sunderland: No-one went 1-3 so nobody picked up a posipat here, instead four players suffered a -3 pat through predicting a 1-2 away win.

Three players managed to max out positively on two out of three of the above (+8) whilst two unfortunates incurred the opposite (-8).

Overall then, another good round of fortune saw Dyer pick up a +5 and maintain his six point lead .

As you can see the rather rum quadrumvirate of Clarky, Dim B, Charlie, and TC all tied on 33 points. In each case they all nailed the most maxes / ubers with three apiece, however the former two's ubers take precedence in the pecking order

Bandit & Woods Monk also tied on the most correct preds wth 12/16 alongsde the latter two above, whilst fatsi and basdfg were unlucky to call as many right as the leaders but finish twenty places off the pace.

With four premier league titles between them, there’s an elitist look to the top of the table as Charlie deposes Sattrega from top spot. My not so good self enters the top five for the first time whilst Clarky & Dean make decent progress.

As previously remarked upon, this season has been relatively low scoring and Charlie's total of 101 to lead is 37 points short of the record at this stage (138 by tso last season). It is also the second lowest top score at this stage ever. By way of perspective then, 101 points would have secured 3rd at this stage in the first ever season (2006-7), 5th in 2007-8, 1st in 2008-9 (the leader that season only had 88 points at this stage!), 3rd again in 2009-10, 16th in 2010-11, 10th in 2011-12, 5th in 2011-12. Finally, incredibly, it would only have been good enough for 23rd place at this stage last season.

Congratulations to EPY on top scoring week 11 in a difficult round (some of us found it very difficult). His 23 comprised an impressive 7/10 and three ‘S’ maxes: Saints, Sunderland and Swansea.

Anap recorded a season’s best as the only other player to break 20, and the only other player to record 7/10 as well. Pepperoni notched up an SB too.

In all though it was tough going, as fully one-third of the field recorded one of their 3 lowest scores to date.

High-flying Southampton’s 2-0 win over Leicester dominated the stats in every aspect: most correctly predicted result (68/69), most maxes (24), and hence highest overall total, (208).

This was only the second match of the season to generate over 200 points (garnering 5 points fewer than the Arsenal-Burnley match from the previous weekend).

Clunker of the week was Tottenham suffering yet another post Europa hangover, as only five players tipped Stoke including two maxes (well done dgsmith & Truffle Shuffle on collecting the five points here).
