To watch films in HD do I need a blu ray player or can I stick to Apple TV.
I have an apple TV but haven't tried it out yet... As the question says do I need to buy a blu ray player?

You can rent movies from iTunes, HD prices start from £3.49.

It entirely depends on whether the film you stream is HD or not. The Apple TV box is certainly capable of HD output.

You might not see smooth playback of films on Apple TV as the box does not have a 24P playback option. A Bluray player has a 24P option for smooth playback on a 24P capable tv.
