It seems to be. I got the update almost a month ago, but others have reported receiving it only in the last day or two. No idea why this should be.

My box updated today. One feature I have just noticed (but it might have been there before) is that when you press the "guide" button you are presented with a list of sub-categories. These include "HD", "Radio" "news" etc. A useful way of navigating round the channels.

Mines updated today but I don't have any sub categories on the Guide button. The box is still as sluggish as ever but at least its not still freezing after FF.

Still think the box is rubbish compared with my Panasonic HD box though.

Yes, I agree, the sub-categories are very handy, makes it a lot quicker browsing through the listings

You need to press the blue button to get the categories.

If you press the "Y" button (which is I think is the menu) you will see "guide". Immediately above that you will see the various categories.

I am not a Talk Talk customer so please excuse my ignorance, but is this software update allowing you record Sky programmes off the internet? If so is it one particular youview box that can do this or any box?

Short answer: yes, and the ability to do it is now available on any YouView box, Humax or Huawei. If you want to record Sky channels, however, you need to be a TalkTalk subscriber because they are part of the TalkTalk package and not available to non-subscribers.

Thanks for replying;

So TalkTalk's YouView boxes are specially built for TalkTalk yes?

No, you can buy them separately. Ebay is a good place to look, but they are also available brand new. You need to be a TalkTalk subscriber to make full use of them. If you use one without a subscription you get standard YouView services, which comprise: two Freeview HD tuners and a hard drive for recording. You also get the YouView electronic programme guide, which goes eight days in both directions. Thus, should you miss a programme you wanted to see, you can go back in the guide to when it was originally broadcast. Press 'OK' on the remote and, if the programme is available on the appropriate catch-up service (such as BBC iPlayer), it will download from the Internet. The On-Demand services available are: BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, 4OD, Demand 5, Dave On Demand, S4COD, Milkshake and a version of Now TV from Sky. As well as accessing them from the programme guide, you can access them directly.

There are several online services coming to Freeview now, but these are not currently compatible with YouView.

Should you opt to take out a TalkTalk subscription, you get the TalkTalk Player, which is a bit like Netflix, with feature films, stage plays, gigs, box sets etc. all available on demand. In addition you get four free Internet channels: CBS Reality +1, CBS Action, CBS Drama and Horror, plus the option to add all manner of 'Boosts'. Prime among these are the Sky channels, but there are also all sorts of others, mainly foreign language services.
