You'll never convince the fms who are determined to slag of Kim/Edith/Debra (pick your thread) that previous singing experience was ok/not an issue. For what it's worth, I agree with you though.

I think it is all about honesty really, Kim and Debra were honest, was Edith?

I honestly don't know

I didn't read any of their biogs and I don't recall any of them saying much about singing experience, or otherwise, on the live show, it didn't really matter to me.

I guess if somone was voting on the basis of what they'd been told and then found out it wasn't strictly true, you'd have a reason to feel lied to. But that would depend upon what was taken as 'true' - for example, is Kim's biog on the EE website absolutely true or is it the equivalent of a CV sent in when applying for a job which exaggerates how much someone has done, to make them look better?

Having said all that, I still don't understand why it's all taken so seriously.

I know... it still annoys me that people take that aspect of it so seriously!

It shouldn't matter very much, but anti-Kim spinners are constantly using it as a weapon, and so it's becme an issue.

Looks like I'm not the only one to notice that. See:
