I had set a recorded this morning for something on CBS Acton on my Youview box for about 2pm while the channel was still at LCN 90 but earlier this evening I find Youview has moved the channel to LCN 70 and the recorded has failed. Youview must have been updating its channel lists at the time I had set it to record CBS Action.

Oh dear, aspect ratio issue with Ultimate Force. Picture is very squashed to the left of the screen, leaving about 60% of rest of the screen blank. DOG looks fine, so its obviously an issue with them.

I recorded the Star Trek - re-mastered original series episode broadcast at noon yesterday. The picture quality was good and it was in widescreen without stretching.
I assume they had chopped off the top and bottom of picture to keep correct aspect ratio but it was not really noticable.
Unfortunately I lost the last minute or so of the program since the recording started and finished early. My Sony PVR has not missed anything before, so I assume the timing signals transmitted were wrong.

according to the CBS Action page on facebook there is a glitch with the timing signal and they are trying to fix it.

The Streets of San Francisco with Karl Malden, I enjoyed spotting well-known actors the other day, the guy who played Digger Barnes in Dallas was in an episode yesterday.

For Star Trek I knew it was re-mastered which seems to give pretty good image quality here on my HD-ready TV with ageing eyesight. But I was surprised by the aspect ratio and wondered whether we're losing top and bottom, or does their re-mastering do somethnig very clever to create extra at the sides?

The latter sounds nearly impossible so I assume it's been cropped to fill the width, which seems a shame as we're missing some of it.

From what I can gather, the remastered Star Trek is genuine widescreen. They have taken material from the original film negatives that were filmed in widescreen and mixed these with some of the studio 4:3 images (which have had to be cropped). Also, a lot of the space images have been recreated by computer to look like the originals but in a better quality.

I checked today just after re-scanning my bedroom tv. I switched to ch70 and just caught the last few minutes of Star Trek which actually finished just over 3 minutes after noon. The EPG was displaying NCIS program info at the time which should have started at noon.

Yes they have notoriously bad timing issues. Whenever I record something it always misses the end of the program. Wish they would sort it out.

The blu-rays are all 4:3. The blu-rays actually are fantastic.

There's obviously a team of zero working on it, with the midday Star Trek the 'Go' signal still occurs several minutes before the preceding programme finishes, but the 'stop' signal is no longer there. My PVR is still faithfully recording the NCIS episode following.

With regards to CBS Action I have only just discovered and as I work full time my time is limited with lots of good stuff on other channels such as Homeland, The Fall, Russell Howard etc but I have been recording Dexter and it is excellent.

I know this is old to those who have Sky but as I do not this is new to me.

Whoopee !! CBS Action will be showing two of the episodes of the Twilight Zone on Dec 5th from Season 3 of the original series (late 1980s) - cue eerie music....

That's good news. Even better would be if a freeview channel started showing the classic Twilight Zone series.

I been recording and watching Star Trek re-mastered original series on CBS Action but have now found that a few of them are now on You Tube.

If CBS Action is moving to LCN 64 as has been prematurely posted in the change log, isn't this a case of just grabbing a lower LCN? It doesn't seem to me to serve any other purpose unless it is to make way for CBS Horror.

Isn't able to claim that slot under associated channel rules - seeing as they are on 90 currently it makes sense to jump up when you can. otherwise you'll be shoved 20 channels down the EPG if 70 - 89 ever get filled!

CBS Action has moved to CH64 I noticed early as my Youview box atuo moved the channel.
At first I had thought I had lost the channel until I tried my Samsung HD smart TV and found it on there.

I'm not rescanning until there is a need to do so, this platform is a mess and the sooner they get it sorted the better. Why they can't leave the channel numbers alone in the same place i'll never know.

The amount of retuning needed on Freeview is ridiculous and the claims from some people that HD boxes all do it automatically just isn't true.

Yes it is true. I have a Manhattan HD box and CBS Action changed automatically without me doing anything. I can't speak for any other HD equipment.

Try rereading. I said it isn't true that all HD boxes do it.

My Freeview Humax HD boxes don't pick up any changes other than a major retune.

I'm not retuning either, as all the previously deleted channels will re-appear.
I can still receive CBS Action ok on ch70 on my TV, just checked a few minutes ago.
I do watch a couple of shows on this channel fairly regularly.
