Best Budget Android Tablet
Adamuk

Hello

I want a basic Android Tablet to work with Google Music and my chromecast. I decided to look online and I'm just totally confused on which tablet to get! I don't particularly need power or battery, but it must be able to run the latest android OS and chromecast google music. It'll literally just be used for that and maybe youtube to cast too.

Can anybody pass any advice?

Thanks in advance!

If it needs to run the latest version of Android then you will need a Nexus

Not true.

I've just bought a budget 8 inch Acer A1-B830 and within days of getting it the operating system was upgraded from Jelly Bean to Stock Kitkat 4.4.2 (no manufacturer's overlay) which matches the os on the latest Nexus.

Are you guaranteed that all the time like you are with a Nexus device?

The latest Android is 4.4.4 and has been for a couple of months now.

It's not like you buy a tablet and then keep it for life. There are major changes to tablet hardware design going on all the time entirely seperate from os upgrades.

The op asked about a budget device, I wouldn't describe Nexus as a budget device supplier. Anyway, Google tablets are in reality manufacturered by ASUS.

The op asked for a tablet ' it must be able to run the latest android OS' which for me means a Nexus tablet.

Depending on when you buy a tablet you could miss out on an upgrade if the company does not support it and generally if you get something half decent a good tablet will lasta few years now at least.

Except the Nexus 10 which is made by Samsung so one is and one isn't and you pick up the older Nexus 7 quite cheap now and that still get the up to date os versions

Hi guys. Thanks for the responses! Much appreciated. The reason I wanted the latest version of android is because I want it I be future proof really. Most of my devices are apple so I know when they'll no longer be supported, but with android I'm unsure how it works. Will he original nexus 7 generation 1 receive the next update when it's released (5.0?)?

Yes, it looks as though Android L (5.0) will be rolled out to all nexus devices OTA, probably to co-incide with the next generation nexus device (8 or 9) maybe October/ November

I don't know what other people think but I consider that 7 inch screen tablets are limited by their compactness. Even switching from a 7 inch to an 8 inch seems to made a hell of a difference all round..

Very much agree with that - I find the 7 inch too small.

I ordered one of these this week Acer Iconia A1-810 7.9 Inch HD Tablet - 8GB, seems good for the money only £57.59 if you order by end of today.
