Ive only had this Pixma MG3550 printer just over 5 days, im not to technical when it comes to printers as ive nver used one before. Its now not turning on for some reason its happened last 3 days. I tried changing the fuse before in the plug i thought that might be the problem and then it came on so i thought great. i then took the printer in the spare room and turned it on in there and it worked after about 20 mins i turned it off that was about 1pm and tried turning it back on about 6pm and it wont come on. I purchased the printer at an Asda store down south before coming back home but still got the warranty. Any thoughts on what the problem might be,

Contact Asda Customer Services on 0800 952 0101 and explain the situation or by using this form https://asda.custhelp.com/app/ask
They may/may not require the store receipt and hopefully will be able to arrange a return and replacement locally

Maybe try a different mains lead?

It's very unlikely of course, but it's worth a go to save all the hassle of getting a replacement printer.

Just an update on the situation. Last night i tried putting the power cord in a different way and it came on, i left the printer on for a good hour or so then switched it off. This morning gone to switch it on again and its not coming on. With regards to contacting Asda as i stated i got the printer when i was down south in Plymouth and brought it home with me to Manchester my girlfriend will have the receipt. I was thinking of emailing Canon and filling out there form i would normally contact them by telephone but they would only go through the same stuff ive done already.

Hopefully Canon may help but if the printer is faulty the retailer (Asda) should be the first step as they are legally responsible

I have just gone into the room where the Printer is located i checked to see what voltage it says on the power cord and it is 250V, from my understanding the UK is 230V is it not. Also on checking the plug i did give it a clean with a dry cloth then the printer came on. So as we speak the printer is turned on and i have not switched it off, im just thinking if i do need to replace the power cord as i am somewhat confused that it says 250V.

the voltages can vary, and can be 220 to around 250v, it is not gong to make a difference, electrical items can cope with that amount of variation. the 250 on the cable is the maximun amount it can handle.

Don't not too long ago we was using 240 volts in this country,.

As for your printer, it sounds like it is not coming out of sleep mode, is there any lights on it at all when you are trying to switch it on?

Ignore what it says on the cable. It does not mean it only works on 250V. It is more a recommended maximum rating than anything else.

What sort of plug does it have at the printer end? You said in a previous post that you plugged it in a different way so does that mean it is a "figure of eight" type (look at it end on ) which can be plugged in either way up. Most other mains plugs can only be plugged in one way round.

It is possible the cable is faulty so first test would be to swap for another. These type of leads are readily available. Also make sure the plug is fully inserted into the socket. In most plugs of these types the contacts are recessed quite a way into the plug so if you don't push it in far enough you don't make a decent connection.

Yes ive just checked the printer and its still switched on The power on button is yellow the wifi button is blue and A4 paper is lit which is green. I think if i get any more problems i will try replacing the cord ive seen them on ebay for £4.99. I know its not a circuit problem or power because i have 2 other plugs in the 4 way extension lead which are used for the Router and Modem.

I have a old Canon Pixma IP4200 printer and it uses the same type of cable a old cassette recorder used to use, as been said above a figure of 8 type and it have to be pushed in pretty tight otherwise it will vibrate loose. They are not the best connections.
