At the end of the day, hollyoaks are very over dramatic, that's what teenagers like, they don't realise that soaps should also be about characters and history, fair enough eastenders could be a bit more dramatic, which I think it will be come autumn! Twitter are just a minority of the audience, about 10 people calling eastenders boring on twitter, compared to the 5-8 million who have watched over the summer, proves there's nothing to worry about, it can be annoying to read that, but it's beats to ignore them, because they'll more than likely still continue to watch EastEnders! Hollyoaks will burn itself out soon anyway...

Hollyoaks presence on social media is what EE was like from 1998 to 2006. I guess EE fans grew up but at the same time they didn't do enough to attract that teenage/social media crowd with new audiences and Hollyoaks is benefiting as a result.

The people on the EastEnders Facebook make daily requests for Joey and Tyler to return, I suppose they like Hollyoaks because it's full of sexy but wooden actors.

But people find Hollyoaks entertaining because it deals with real life issues such as rape,abuse and drugs. This is what Eastenders used to be.

Well said! I do think EE could be a bit more dramatic because they'd be able to be really dramatic and still get the aftermath right! But I'm sure it will get more dramatic this autumn anyway, but I agree with what you say!

Exactly. Half the things Hollyoaks has been doing EastEnders done way back when. I hear they are not attempting to do a Bi-Polor storyline too.

So many storylines I've seen/heard of since Kirkwood returned sound pretty much like a carbon copy of EastEnders.

It just peoples opinions, if they feel that way who cares. There always some sort of soapwars/soap bashing, I'm all up for debate but ultimately as long as I like what I'm watching I don't really care what anyone else thinks.

It will run out of steam and the ideas will all start becoming samey and then Kirkwood might be forced to leave/sacked and then the next EP might take a different view.

Brookside was far better. Gritty and had plenty of WOW moments. Everything on Hollyoaks has been done before (They even covered their own Male rape storyline)

Fans of Hollyoaks get called silly teens etc theres always going to be a group of fans who slate fans of other soaps, I can understand someone having an opinion on the show but why do you feel the need to insult people who watch or like the show.

I agree with this so much dan! Just how long can hollyoaks carry on for before they run out of breath, EE started to go sour in 2011 (not because they were ott but because if the producer) and people started to go off it, the exact same thing will happen to hollyoaks, because they'll run out of ideas, and just start repeating themselves! Also, isn't that mercedes leaving? and she's like the main female character or something? That's a threat to hollyoaks tbf, look at how much damage ronnie, stacey, peggy and pat leaving EastEnders did to the show!:P they're picking themselves up now though, hopefully they have lots in store for stacey and ronnie, the show is slowly but surely getting better!

I agree. Same with Emmerdale too. They spent years having big stunts (which they pull off better than any other soap) and then all of a sudden they run out of steam. People got bored of all these 'Hour long specials' weekly.
It went sour as hell mid 2006 and it's ratings fell as a result.

Hollyoaks will go the same way. There is so many times you can watch someone being murdered,an explosion or someone being raped.

It's by far the least realistic soap on TV. I think I rarely hear of Chester in the news but Manchester and London have far more crime so Corrie and EastEnders could get away with it a little more (Not all the time though)
