Why doesn't Ian just go to Martin?

So confused. Why on earth doesn't Ian just go and stay with his cousin Martin for a few weeks rather than catching a flight to see Michelle? The man lives down the road and gets NO mention from the Beale family at all.

Would you voluntarily go and live with Natalie Cassidy? Me neither.

She spends half her time either at work or with her mom! She's hardly with Martin.

Because Sharon told him he was going to America....what she says goes.

Because Ian grew up with Michelle, they have a close bond as they are both similar in age.

Did Martin and Ian ever really get on? Martin likes football and playing about with his veg. He is hardly the sympathetic type. I cannot imagine him giving Ian the support and the kick up the arse that he needs

Pretty much. Michelle was one of Ians closest friends and he and Martin were often at odds with each other. Compared to the other Fowlers, Martin was the one Ian had the least close relationship with. I doubt Martin would have been willing to offer this kind of support to Ian

True. But its been years since all of that. I'd like to think Martin has grown up a little.

I think it's more believable that he would go to someone of his age

I see what you mean.

I just find it really strange that Martin hasn't come and seen Ian and neither has he been mentioned... even Ian doesn't care for Martin.

Not much of a holiday for Ian though if he stayed with Martin. A trip to an exotic place or down the road from your house? It's a no brainer really! Lol

Isn't Carol currently staying with Sonia and Martin though? There might be no room for Ian even if he wanted to go there.

But I think Sharon saw it more as a proper break, away from the area. Ian's very lucky that his cousin Michelle lives in the US and is quite happy to have him at short notice!

Except for the fact that it's is possible the way they did this.
You have to have a visa for the U.S
And their are a lot's of things to do , not just taking a shower and Phil turning up with a ticket.
Does Ian has a valid passport, who's looking after al his business , etc etc

What annoyed me is that Cindy has just had a baby and no one really mentioned it, including Peter.

No offence but when did you start watching EastEnders? Ian and Martin weren't as close as what Ian and Mark were but they were close. When Kathy died, Ian and Martin had more or less a two hander set in the cafe where Martin supported Ian after Kathy's death. There is also countless other scenes I could mention.

From reading these forums its becoming apparent alot of people on here are fairly new viewers to the show.

As for comments like why has Martin not been to see Ian. Well use your common sense! James Alexandrou doesn't want to return yet. Thats why.

Ian mentioned it and Sharon said she would be fine. I thought it was harsh, but Peter has helped raise his brother and Lola's kid and the dad's father and grand dad are next door. Still Ian should have stayed

As someone else has mentioned, you need an ESTA Visa for travel to the USA, no exceptions.

Did Lord Phil bully the visa company into faking one for Ian? Well, that's not possible either, as it is done electronically online with criminal checks etc.

Does Ian have a criminal record? You cannot go to America if you have certain discretions on your file...

BIB - It would have been easy enough for the writers to have Ian, Sharon, Peter or Sonia say that Martin had visited Ian a few weekends here and there to support the family after Lucy's death. Weeknd visits would be a lot more realistic since Martin works during the week and also it would be convenient because us viewers never see what happens on Saturdays and Sundays in EE

After all he did, he gets a trip to Florida?

As another person suggested, they could easily just reference him phoning Ian or popping over on the weekend. But its like Martin isn't even related to Ian.

I agree. Hope she gets some real support from Peter.

Thanks to Mick he doesn't have a criminal record but he is a suspect in a murder investigation . I wonder what the police will make of him lying about his alibi and then fleeing the country.

You can get the visa on line in minutes.

I hope so but his treatment of Sonia recently seems to suggest otherwise. Plus Ian barely mentions or seems to cotact martin indicating that the cousins have drifted further apart
