The new channels that have been added to the Entertainment Boost (History, Lifestyle, C1 and others that I cannot recall at present) are free to view this weekend. I used to take the Entertainment Boost, but dropped it when the seven channels I watched most were added to the standard Plus Package. Now I am seriously considering taking it on again. Long ago, when I was a Sky subscriber, I was rather fond of the History channel.

Its not the same History channel as it used to be. Its now full of those stupid Storage Wars programmes, no actual history programmes on it. I've contacted them numerous times on why they still call it the history channel, they've never replied to me. Like you i used to love this channel but all the Doc channels with exception of Nat Geo seem to have gone down hill. The only channel that seems to show decent documentires at the moment is PBS.

Oh dear. I'll keep an eye on what they actually broadcast before making a decision then.

Agreed. I used to watch a lot of Yesterday until they started showing wall-to-wall Last of the Summer Wine and Bargain Hunt. And in the (almost) year I've had NowTV, I've never once found anything on Discovery that I've actually wanted to watch.

There's a gap in the market for a damn good commercial documentary channel that can rival BBC4.

A channel with adverts will never rival BBC4.

Free for 3 months, to which I've registered ( after that it's £30 per month).
However, the channels don't work! The error code is IPC 6023.
Don't think I'll bother trying to fix it the way they recommend, seems too complicated and unnecessary: my settings are listed as connected for all other Youview channels, so can't see why the Sky ones should be different. May give the service centre a ring though...
Anyone else having this problem?

I don't have Talk Talk but do get Discovery HD with BT TV and I do watch the programme how its made now and again on that channel.
Quest used to have the programme.

I too went for this offer and glad I've had chance to try it for free before paying as the picture freezes every 30 seconds or so, sometimes with the IPC6023 error where I have to change channels and back to get it working again. I have fibre, use powerline adapters and have done everything they recommend. It's odd because the on demand players all work fine.

Same here. Netflix, iPlayer, TalkTalk Player etc. all work perfectly, and in HD, while my complimentary Sky channels (I have the Plus package) can be relied on to freeze at least once an hour. Why can't the Sky channels be streamed in the same way as the on-demand stuff?

For some reason, for the last two days I've been able to switch the TV on and get the extra channels without first having to re-boot the box. Sky Arts 1 is still the only one on which I ever find anything worth watching. I might take a peek at the History channel, but my experience of American documentaries is that they all seem to be made for 10-year-olds.

In general, I agree with you. There is precious little on the Sky offerings that attracts me, most of it to be found on the two Sky Arts channels. Most of my viewing seems to be split between the BBC, ITV and Netflix these days. I cannot see any point in paying money every month for a bunch of channels that I will never watch. Were I a diehard sports fan, it would be different, of course, but I am not. Sky Movies are no longer the attraction that they used to be because YouView already caters for film fans quite well. If Amazon Prime joins, as seems inevitable sooner or later now that Netflix is so established, there will be precious little point in subscribing to Sky Movies for anyone. Besides that, as I mentioned in my previous post, Sky seems to be incapable of streaming anything without having it freeze at least once an hour. Considering that the other on-demand services all work perfectly, I am tempted to suspect that they do it deliberately to tempt us away from YouView and towards them. Perish the thought, of course.

I did have that problem and it was solved permanently a while back when TalkTalk sent me a "super router" for my fibre broadband.

With or without fibre and using the old TT router the way to get rid of the error is a total re-boot. Turn off TT box with remote then press off button on the back. Switch off router wait wait 10 seconds. (If you have an Open Reach Fibre Router between wall socket and TT old style router re-boot that as well by unplugging from the mains and then plugging back in)

Switch on (Open reach box if applicable) then TT router wait until broadband is back up then switch on TT box with button on the back & finally with remote. Should then received the internet channels OK.

Please note there is no guarantee that the error won't reappear in the future.
