Does anyone else think?
That soaps would be better if they were on after 9 o'clock and actually had some swearing in, where appropriate? I just think it would make it more realistic. Everybody is always arguing in Soaps, there's murders, alcoholics, cheats and non stop negative drama, yet nobody ever swears?

The viewing figures would plummet further.
The channels don't want to lose those peak time viewers. |

Actually. I think the better question is why swearing isn't allowed on telly before 9 o'clock anyway. If you're allowing your children to watch a programme like Eastenders, I highly doubt that it's the swearing that will have the bigger negative influence on them.

It could work, the channels would need something to replace them for that time slot but I don't think ratings would go up as viewers are likely to tune into other shows and many people watch shows occasionally the day after if they have recorded it and some people watch soaps on 4OD, ITV Player and BBC iPlayer for example. The only show that won't work as well would be Hollyoaks due to the demographics. But with this, the soaps would be in direct compeition but honestly I can't see it happening.

I don't understand why viewing figures would plummet further.. Can you explain? It's not like there's ever actually anything good on after 9. O'clock these days. Telly has become pretty poor in general, so I think people would tune in and actually that young people are more likely to tune in later on, after hanging out with their friends. Families don't sit down and watch Eastenders together anymore like they used to.
You simply don't get the majority of viewers sticking around beyond 9pm. |

Not in my opinion. |

The better question is why you need swearing so badly? I mean, seeing Phil Mitchell utter *uck would be funny the first time but does it really add all that much to the show that you'd shove it past the watershed?
Not in my opinion. |

Because the evening time is when most people are sat around watching TV.

I just think it would seem more realistic in some scenes. Who said anything about finding swearing funny?

Oh well sorry, I assumed that because myself and most people I personally know don't actually watch any telly till about 10 at night or in the day at the weekend, that most other people don't. Don't people have social lives?
There's a reason it's called "prime time" television. |
