Five-years ago since Ramsay Clegg (Andrew Sachs) died on Coronation Street
It is 5 years ago since Norris' long lost brother was killed off. Although he wasn't the most interesting character, I thought Eileen Derbyshire did well in the storyline. This scene here in particular near the end.
http://youtu.be/J0YSDtQ04wA?t=5m13s (Starts at 5:13) I also liked it here when she told Norris how it is http://youtu.be/lK1y8pbCxdY?t=3m31s (at 3:31) Although Emily doesn't appear much, I think the actress still does well when given something. Very underrated actress and character. |

I remember this. Eileen Derbyshire was superb during those scenes. She has always been very natural during dramatic scenes . She is criminally underused these days ( however this could be her choice) though she looks excellent for 83

The character of Ramsay wasn't particularly memorable but the fallout from his death and the exploration of Norris' s more vulnerable side was probably one of Kim Crowther's high points.

If it hadn't been for the Russell Brand Jonathan Ross antics, would he had been there in the first place?
Andrew Sachs has tried to step out of the shadow of Manuel on at least 2 occasions to my knowledge & those roles didn't last long! There was a Bbc sitcom (name escapes me!) plus an early Central comedy Dead Ernest, where he played a man who died by accident! |

I have to say these were really powerful scenes including the graveyard scene and Emily. Can't believe this was five years ago.

It honestly feels like longer than five years ago. I remember when they first announced they had cast Andrew Sachs they wouldn't stop banging on about how 'this had been in the pipeline since before the Jonothan Ross and Russell Brand scandal'. It seemed really odd though because the radio scandal had took place more than 6 months before, would they really have already cast Sachs that far in advance? It seemed like they were protesting just a bit too much.

If Norris has a long lost brother, that long lost brother might have a son and family, who might be looking for a pub to take over........

Really? My Mum and me have always thought Emily's a rubbish actresss. She always looks awkward when acting just an easy scene. Let alone an emotional scene! Lol

I love Eileen as Emily. Yes she comes across as awkward but thats the character. Emily is an awkward, uncomfortable person who is quite guarded, well mannered and principaled. You don't get many characters like her these days. I love it when Emily really speaks her mind, thats when Eileen really shines as she goes for it. Like that scene with norris above, and when she gave Tracy a dressing down after she was attacked by Claire. One of my favourite stories was when Ed, Ernest killer turned up. He became her friend before unvielling the truth and Eileen Grimshaw fell in love with him. It was such a great human story. Emily's pain and anger towards Ed was sensational.
