With the regular season due to conclude later on today, I thought I would share the following statistics. Ninety two NFL matches will have been shown live in the UK this season. Eighty nine by Sky, one by the BBC, one by both BBC and Sky and one by BBC, Sky and Yahoo. There were seventeen Thursday Night Football, Sunday Early, Sunday Late, Sunday Night Football and Monday Night Football along with three International Series Matches, two Thanksgiving daytime matches and two Saturday Night Football. The total number of appearances per team is as follows.
13. Green Bay.
10. Dallas, New England and Philadelphia.
9. Denver and NY Giants.
8. Carolina, Cincinnati, NY Jets and Pittsburgh.
7. Arizona, Buffalo, Minnesota and Seattle.
6. Detroit, Indianapolis and New Orleans.
5. Kansas and Miami.
4. Baltimore, Chicago, Oakland and Washington.
3. Houston, San Diego and San Francisco.
2. Atlanta, Cleveland, Jacksonville and St Louis.
1. Tampa Bay and Tennessee.
Green Bay, New England and Pittsburgh all featured twice in the Thursday Night Football slot, however Pittsburgh and New England featured in NBC’s opening night match and Green Bay were in NBC’s thanksgiving night game. Carolina, Dallas and Philadelphia did not feature in the Thursday night football slot, however all three teams played in the daytime matches on thanksgiving Thursday. Chicago’s one TNF appearance was on thanksgiving night although this was on NBC rather than part of the regular NFL Network package. Dallas and Philadelphia did feature in the Saturday Night Football games which are part of the TNF package in Weeks 15 and 16 respectively.
Seventeen different teams featured in Sunday Night Football matches. Seven teams appeared three times - Arizona, Dallas, Denver, Green Bay, New England, NY Giants, and Philadelphia.
Baltimore, Cincinnati, Detroit, Indianapolis, NY Giants, Philadelphia and San Diego all featured twice on Monday Night Football. There were no appearances for Jacksonville, Oakland, Tampa Bay and Tennessee in MNF.
When looking at the Sunday early and late games (the matches which Sky has some degree of choice over) twenty three of the thirty two teams have featured. Cincinnati had the most early games (four) whilst Dallas had four late games. The total appearances per team are as follows;
(Early / Late)
5. (3 / 2)Carolina. (2 / 3) Green Bay.
4. (3 / 1)Buffalo, (4 / 0)Cincinnati, (0 / 4)Dallas, (1 / 3)Denver, (3 / 1)New England, (3 / 1)NY Jets, (2 / 2)Pittsburgh.
3. (1 / 2)Minnesota, (2 / 1)New Orleans, (2 / 1)NY Giants, (0 / 3)Oakland, (2 / 1)Philadelphia, (1 / 2)Seattle.
2. (0 / 2)Arizona, (2 / 0)Chicago, (1 / 1)Kansas, (1 / 1)Miami.
1 Early. Washington.
1 Late. Baltimore, Indianapolis, St Louis.
Eight of the seventeen weeks have featured two of the primary games from CBS or Fox that week. Seven have featured one primary game from either network. On Week’s 3 and 10, Sky chose two matches which were not primary games in America. In week 3 we had New Orleans @ Carolina and Buffalo @ Miami when CBS aired San Diego @ Minnesota and Chicago @ Seattle whilst FOX broadcast Atlanta @ Dallas. In Week 10 Sky picked Miami @ Philadelphia followed by Minnesota @ Oakland. CBS broadcast Cleveland @ Pittsburgh and New England @ NY Giants whilst Fox broadcast Detroit @ Green Bay.
Overall teams from the NFC East, AFC East and NFC North feature the most. The AFC South is has fewest team appearances this season.
