Twitter has the rights to stream 10 Thursday Night Football games next season, apparently worldwide. (Presumably the same 10 CBS & NBC have 5 each of).
view able in the twitter app? twitter doesn't count towards my mobile data usage, so that would be a great way to watch the games at work

It appears not in Canada, so the same might apply in other territories too

I thought that might be the case, but NFL network were going on about twitters 800 million users being able to watch yesterday..

Still Sky can't have exclusive streaming rights to those games as they're on the UK version of nfl gamepass as well, so I guess it's still possible they'll not be blacked out on twitter here.

I understand they are going to broadcast via Periscope, which they own.

Surely the 30-60 second lag of streaming compared to network TV is going to cause a bit of an issue no? If you try watching sport on Sky Go/Gamepass/BBC.co.uk you often get things ruined by Twitter if you have that open too.

Surely the lesson there then is not to pay too much attention to Twitter whilst watching streamed sport?

A bit difficult when the streaming is right alongside the Twitter updates... because it's being streamed by Twitter.

2016 schedule released at 1am UK time on Friday morning... interesting to see if they will throw Brock Osweiler off the deep end by having Houston at Denver as the opening night game.

I wouldn't have thought they would do that, have Osweiler standing on the other sideline as the Broncos celebrate their Super Bowl win, and possibly having the home fans boo him throughout the game. The Pats or Carolina would be tasty but they probably don't want either of those to be the first game out of the gate, so I'll guess Indy.

Seahawks @ LA Rams first or second SNF of the season? Maybe second as USC at home on the 10th.

Houston @ Denver makes most sense to me. The rawness over Osweiler's surprise departure makes it the most logical pick or possibly the Colts. I don't think New England can be on NBC because they can't have the same match-up two years in a row and NE @ Den was on NBC last year so that looks set for a CBS late window later in the year. As for a SB re-match - that would be a huge SNF game later in the year, no need to waste it on opening night.

There is a theory out there that if teams agree to be on Hard Knocks the league considers it something of a favour, and will reciprocate. An example was the Rams didn't want to do it a few years ago, and the league said ok, but the quid pro quo was they had to draft Michael Sam with their 7th round pick so he didn't go undrafted.

If there is any truth to the theory, I can see the Texans (who were on Hard Knocks last year) saying they really don't want to start the Brock Osweiler era with him playing at Denver, with the Broncos top-ranked defense coming after him and potentially rattling his confidence. In addition to which, the defending champ has, I think, only lost the first Thursday game of the following season once. So Houston presumably would prefer a nice easy home game to start the year.

Now watch them be scheduled to open at the Broncos and the above hypothesis will be shown to be complete cobblers.

Denied by the Rams.

"We had three seventh-round picks," Fisher said. "We drafted Michael, who was the best player on the board. And who in their right mind would think that you'd give up a draft choice to avoid doing something like that -- something that I think would benefit the organization."

Worth a note that the Giants/Rams game at Twickenham is listed for NFL Network, with Colts/Jags on CBS and Redskins/Bengals on Fox

There will also be two games on Christmas Day/Night

Ravens/Steelers at 21:30 GMT (NFL Network)
Broncos/Chiefs at 1:30am GMT (NBC)

And the Raiders are on Sunday Night Football for the first time in 9 years, playing the Broncos on November 6th.

For now. That looks like one of the weakest SNF games and the Packers v Colts could easily be flexed in if either the Broncos or Raiders are uncompetitive.

I wonder if it's a league rule that the 2nd Monday night game the first week has to be a clunker, because it seems like that's what happens every year. I suppose it's on so late most of the US has gone to sleep. The other three match-ups look decent though. A little surprising they open the season with a repeat of the Super Bowl, but that is certainly one way to make a splash.

The reason there are 2 Monday night games in the first week is because ESPN pay for a package of 17 Monday night games. There is no Monday night game in Week 17 so one week there has to be two, and its usually been the first week where two have been played.

Although it probably a nice novelty for the west coast of the US to have a live game played after 8pm local time! Think the last few years the late Monday Week 1 game has featured sides in the Western divisions anyway.

Well MNF is generally the 3rd/4th/5th best game of the week (on paper) in a normal week after the SNF game, the 4:25 quasi national game on the network that has the double header and other games protected by CBS/FOX.

Then for Week 1 you have to add in an extra game on NBC with the Thursday Kickoff game which will obviously be the best game of the week and the late MNF game ranks behind the earlier one in prominence so you're looking at perhaps the 7th best game of the week (out of 16). Plus you have to have two west coast teams because it would be seen as unfair to put an East Coast or Central team on in a game that will finish for their fans at 1am or midnight and it's understandable that you will end up with clunkers.

I'm trying to remember when they started having two Monday night games the first week, within the past ten years, maybe even the past five. I think. You're right about the teams involved, because of the relatively late start time it has to be a team in the Pacific or Mountain time zone, and usually against another western team so that team's fans don't have to stay up past midnight to watch. I'd be interested to see the ratings, presumably not great. The saving graces are it's the first week of the season so fans are hungry for just about any game, and no one is sure yet if the two teams will be awful. As might be the case with Rams v SF this year.

The MNF Doubleheader in Week 1 has been going for about a decade.

Generally it had been an all AFC West Coast Game (with the odd exception) because of the combination of time slot and CBS not having a late Sunday slot because of the US Open. This has started to change in the past season or two with schedule changes and eventually CBS losing the US Open.

Historically the late game was about 2/3 million viewers down on the early slot, because of the reasons you've mentioned, but last season Vikings/49ers game was the first time that the late game outdrew the early fixture.
