Sky could take the broadcast feed if they wanted to, this is what NFL Network and Direct TV take for each of their Redzone channels.

However this feed is "dirty". It includes a ticker along the bottom of the screen, the score updates and would be slightly worse picture quality as it is later in the transmission chain.

I would guess because international broadcasters take the feed from the stadiums rather than New York (or wherever CBS/Fox are based)?
Have to bare in mind that a huge majority of international broadcasters will want a feed with no commentary so they can dub their own language commentary over the top, thus "game breaks" in English are not much use to them. I suspect that why Sky get the feeds that they do. Would be easier to source them all out worldwide like that.

I also suspect that early on Sunday the lack of commentary was because Sky had been sent the wrong feed that had sound but no commentary intended for those that commentate their own language over the top.

Likewise I feel some of the better commentary crew are further down the order. I think the SNF and MNF commentary teams on NBC and ESPN respectively are excellent.

For CBS I always enjoyed Greg Gumbel and Dan Dierdorf. We'll see how Trent Green works with Greg Gumbel later on. From Fox I think Kenny Albert and Daryl Johnston in the booth with Tony Siragusa commentating from the side line works well.
Gumbel is probably the best NFL commentator IMO. Watched Jets @ Packers yesterday and he did another sterling job. I like Kevin Harlan as well, although we don't often hear him on Sky, as he tends to get given less important games.

If I wanted to watch Red Zone, I would hit the red button, but I don't.

I want to watch the main game, after all, is the red button not meant to be our choice?

The way it is at the moment, takes away that choice and I don't like it.

Come on Sky, get your act together.

I have only just added the Sports package just for the NFL.

I always feel that Red Zone is what Soccer Saturday should be but the Premier League and Football League would never let them. A rolling highlights show of every goal, penalty, booking etc with only a few seconds delay.

I saw on Swedish TV they do something similar so would be possible here except for the football authorities living in the dark ages. As with NFL. There should be every Premier League game live plus a red zone equivalent for Saturday afternoons.

They have something like this in Spain for their Premier League coverage, too. They'll show action from one game, then it will switch to another match. It's sort of fun, because you can't tell what's going to happen. The team with the ball at the start of the clip doesn't necessarily end up scoring - sometimes it's a miss or a good save, other times the other team wins possession, and goes up the other end, sometimes scoring, other times not. So it maintains a degree of drama.

I would imagine with the restrictions on showing live football during the 3 - 5:15 slot in the UK it will be years before we get anything similar here.

My point is that Redzone should stay on the Red button, that way I can have the full game and you (by pressing the red button) can have Redzone.

Good solution which would be made better if Sky would make the red button HD (is it a case of they can't, or they just won't, whether that's for cost or other reasons?)

They had HD red button for either the last Ryder Cup or the one before that, which led to not only red button HD for the golf but also used those streams for a couple of extra HD Champions League games behind the red button before the streams disappeared.

Considering that, pretty sure it's just cost rather than anything technical.

It's purely cost as Sky aren't willing to pay for the extra HD channels. Other European countries show all 8 games on a Champions League match days in HD no reason Sky couldn't.

Thanks for the info, with that I agree - Sky could show them, probably should to be honest - they ask enough from us for the Sports subscription!

I never understood why they didn't pick up MNF straight away when it became available three seasons back. I can't imagine the Beeb or Eurosport spent more than a fiver on the rights.

I wouldn't be surprised if their new willingness to go without UK presentation for overnight games might have something to do with it?

Well the late Sunday match isnt included as part of the above, so you would assume that will be staying on Channel 4.

Or any other Terrestrial Broadcaster that wanted it e.g BBC, ITV, CH 5.

Personnally I wouldnt rule ITV out as they have less footy from next season and would be good for them to increase there sports portfolio. They could even make Sunday Nights Sports night.

e.g
11.00 News
11.20 Premiership Rugby Union
12.20 Motorsport UK
1.10 NFL live
