Hardly surprising after yesterdays performance but they could be missing out on Tom Brady setting all sorts of new passing records! 😂

In Week 9, Red Zone on Sky Sports Mix got more viewers (43k) than the average over the two live games on Sky Sports 2 (less than 35k).

That's only because people want to seem cool by watching RedZone

I'm not surprised at all

No adverts
Multiple games make it more interesting as always something going on.
The two they show which usually don't feature my team.
There are people watching who follow NFL but don't have a Sky Sports subscription.

Plus Bosox wants to look cool

NBC today announced that Mike Tirico will spell Al Michaels for four games over SNF/TNF this season. Mike will also call two games with Doug Flutie (which I think we knew already?) but it is Mike and Cris this Sunday, Thanksgiving night and two other games.

According to posts in the Sky Sports Mix thread, the Detroit Lions v Minnesota Vikings Thanksgiving Day game will be broadcast on Sky Sports 1, Sky Sports Mix and Pick TV from 5pm to 9pm next Thursday.

I understand it on Sky Sports 1. And I understand it on Sky Sports Mix, as a tease for non-sports subscribers. But I don’t understand it on Pick TV. I mean, I know it allows Freeview viewers to watch it, but it seems like an odd thing to do, that’s never been done before.
Could there be a contractual reason behind it, i.e. Sky have to show it FTA or something?

They have put games on Pick before, they did last year. And of course Mix didnt exist last year. Plus Mix is in HD.

I didn’t know the NFL had been on Pick before, my mistake.
I still don’t understand why though, and suspect its some sort of agreement with the NFL that certain games will be broadcast FTA (and Pick is Sky’s only outlet to facilitate that).

The rumour was it was part of the sweetener Sky offered when they took on SNF after C4 pulled out and no one else wanted it. Last year there was a couple of games on Pick plus Wembley games and Super Bowl on BBC to give a limited amount of free coverage. They also put some late season SNF on Sky One but no need this year as Mix is available if they do the same.

Sky Sports now showing Rams at Dolphins in the 9.25pm slot this Sunday, so we can all see Jared Goff fall on his arse. Maybe.

Well, why not? It's Sky's shop window. Why would NFL be less likely to appear in it than any other content?

I didn’t say it shouldn’t be, I just said I don’t understand why the NFL was on PICK.
Sky doesn’t normally put any sport on PICK, so why this NFL game?
Hence my guess that having a few games FTA was part of the deal Sky did with the NFL...

NFL being presented in the studio which used to host Saturday Night Football and currently used for EFL coverage. Since when did this last happen? Studio audience as well....

Thanksgiving special.

It's Dara Kennedy, Neil Reynolds, Shaun Gayle and the welcome return of Jeff Reinebold in the studio for Sky.

I see no Cecil Martin who always appears on the panel on Thanksgiving games.

Reynolds was at his most NFLUK stooge like last night. Basically having a pop at the nine NFL teams who haven't signed up for a London game yet. 'They should be lining up to play here!'. Why exactly? As a Green Bay fan, why should I want the Packers to voluntarily give up a game at Lambeau to play at Wembley or Tottenham in front of loads of neutral fans? He also said that the NFL was going from strength to strength in the UK, but viewer figures don't really prove that.

And his 'investigations' into the NFL changing the kick off times for the London games was fantastic. He has been snooping around, or probably just checking the internet where the story has been for over a week!

I used to like it when the London games were over because Sky generally then put it to bed for the season, but this year they can't help themselves.

What story is this? Are they changing them back to a 5/6pm UK local time next season?

EDIT - ah I found it:

Yes, said on Sky yesterday all 3 or 4 UK games next year are likely to be 1pm eastern, 6pm UK time (or 5pm on clocks change day)

Also said Baltimore v Jacksonville is highly likely to be a London game next year.

As long as we still get the option of RedZone instead, I'm not especially bothered. My big beef in the past is that they ditched the Red button coverage of RedZone when the Wembley games were on.

In the end they stopped doing this, thankfully, and came to their senses.

My understanding is that if a team wants to bid for a Super Bowl they must also be prepared to play a "home" game at Wembley. That, I believe rules out Dallas and NE as the owners have said they don't want to do that. Green Bay will almost certainly never host a Super Bowl but given the unique way GB is owned they won't do it anyway.

NE and DAL have played in the UK but as the "away" team.

The other thing you have to consider I guess is eg that the Browns are currently so bad that people might consider the game to be a blow out and ticket sales would struggle

Completely agree, and I don't think Green Bay will ever openly volunteer to do it. But they may be forced to one day. Of course, as an away side, no problems if the league are trying to get everyone to do it.

As far as Cleveland are concerned, they'd have to be put in a game with a real powerhouse team, because Cleveland v Jacksonville (for example) is not one that will sell out IMO. Obviously, the games involving Jacksonville so far have done okay, but they'd be pushing it with Cleveland as well.

Think the JAX games have done alright in spite of them not because of them.

On most occasions the NFL have had a marquee name as the opposition. In 2014 when the Cowboys were the opposition I thought I was at AT&T!!!
