Any bloody excuse for a "fantasy schedule"...

In terms of exposure for the game, the NFL could do no worse than to try and hawk a "2nd pick" package for the 6pm games to FTA broadcasters, plenty of games to choose from. Although cant imagine Sky would be too chuffed.

Sky pay extra for exclusivity in the 6pm / 9pm window.

I thought the schedule was the best way to put across my point

Yes, but they had no need for MNF then - so no point wasting money broadcasting it.

BT's entry to the market completely changes the dynamics. It's now much more important for Sky to bolster their schedules as much as they can in all directions - they've already lost Champions League and there's every chance they will soon lose a chunk of Premier League as well.

Obviously stuff like NFL MNF can't replace that as it is trivial in comparison - but the point is that Sky want their schedules to be as strong and deep as possible in order to minimise cancellations in a scenario where they have less PL and no CL.

It's quite a long list of bits and pieces being added - extra Euro/World Cup qualifiers, Eredivisie, IPL cricket, Pro12 and Top 14 rugby union, now NFL MNF - all pretty minor stuff in terms of importance but taken together they fill out the schedules quite a bit.

Also worth noting that MNF may have ended up on BT if Sky hadn't taken it - ie it would not necessarily have remained on British Eurosport. So Sky taking it closes off that option.

Good news that RedZone on the red button is mentioned explicitly in the press release, hopefully that means it's presence if secured for the next 5 years. Now if they could just work on getting it in HD...

As for MNF I'd love it if Sky did the same with this as they have with TNF and take the American Pregame show. The concern I have though is whether Sky will refuse to do that when it would mean giving their channel over to ESPN branding and ESPN in the UK is part of the BT Sport channels.

They could block out the Espn branding

Thanks for the explanation. It's live, original content, at a time when there is very little live sport available. Presumably they'd have been able to offset some of the costs with additional advertising revenue. I agree that BT's arrival looks to have changed Sky's overall approach (for the better), but I doubt anyone was going to sign up for BT but not Sky just because BT got the Monday night game. I just don't see why Sky didn't take it before, the BBC stepped in so last minute three years ago I wouldn't be surprised if they paid literally nothing for the rights.

Could BT Sport be ready to ditch the ESPN brand by the time Sky Sports picks up this contract.
After all BT Sport will have the Champions League by then and could effectively rebrand the ESPN channel BT Sport 3.

It will also still have College Football, MLB, NBA and College Basketball so why the need to ditch the ESPN brand on one channel. Champions League will probably get a new channel (which will likely cost more) plus red button coverage.

Since ESPN doesn't carry any NFL coverage at present but does carry large amounts of other ESPN product as listed above why drop the brand just because one ESPN offering turfs up on Sky.

What i'd like to see is Sky carrying ESPN's NFL Sunday and Monday Countdown (in the same way they carry the NFL Network and CBS Thursday pre game shows) as ESPN America used to but I can't see that happening because of the BT Sport/ESPN connection. Sky could frankly limit their Sunday night studio coverage to in game, half time and post game as far as i'm concerned. Oh and please offer Redzone in HD

Todays' s London game isn't been shown in many markets, unlike many previous CBS games, where it has been the main event.

I watch any or every game online. My choice and not some sky executive.. they are all there if you look. People are obsessed with having have them on their TV's.

I hate these London games now. They stick us with the shittiest game of the week (they'd never send over a good game, we only get the ones they'd struggle to sell tickets for) and as an extra gift they take away RedZone so there is no escape.

No one really knows whether it's Sky or NFLUK that enforces the no RZ bullshit. It's all to artificially inflate the viewing figures for the London game to make it seem like a success.

Channel 4 is only showing the match until 8pm. Retune to More4 thereafter. Wonderful!

Because they will get higher ratings for other programmes than the NFL and they don't want to disrupt their prime time schedule.

He's at Sky Centre with Cecil Martin. Will be doing drops in the early game and then hosting the late game.

Did anyone see the Wembley preview show? Did anyone think it was anything other than terrible?

I wonder whether they are prepping Reynolds to take the anchor role in the not too distant future.
